Coming into the '03-04 season, the Pistons managment could have could have made the team better than they are now,even though they're now NBA champions. Had the Pistons drafted young talent Carmelo Anthony instead of project Darko Milicic back in june 2003, they may well have been arguably the best offensive and defensive team in the NBA(Rasheed included). I know the potenital of Darko is intruiging, but at this point, Carmelo plays like an all-star, and Darko is still an undeveloped mystery. If you considered that idea that Carmelo was on the pistons is they drafted him second instead of Darko, they would have potentially have 4 allstars on one team coming into this season
Not this again Rasheed would not be in Detroit if Melo was drafted...not that hard to understand. Melo is a good scorer and on a run and gun team he can be really effective but on Detroit? He wouldn't be anywhere near as good as he currently is. He relies on fastbreak to get his offense started. He also doesn't play a lick of D, which wouldn't fit into Larry Brown's system With Melo as the starting SF last season, the Pistons would not of won the title. Kobe would of likely burnt him every play.
Are u kidding? Melo is not all run and gun; as of now he is one of the top 20, maybe top 15 pure scorers in the game..fastbreak, halfcourt, u name it. In case you've forgotten why dont u check out an encore of Carmelo lighting up Kansas as a freshman with a bum knee, and on top of that Devner isnt even a run and gun team! By having Melo, the Pistons woulda had TWO sixth man candidates in Prince and Williamson, and as far as Melo's lack of D- players have come in and out of Detroit and learned Browns sytem. And lastly, if Sheed wasnt there cause of Melo, the Pistons still would have adressed the Center postion, if not sheed than someone else to play in front of the solid elden campbell
i'm sorry, but this is just stupid. how much better would Melo have made the Pistons? they completely dismantled and embarassed the Lakers in the Finals. would they have beaten L.A. by even more with Melo?? IN CASE YOU'VE FORGOTTEN, Melo was the same guy who sulked on the bench against the Pistons and let his team get destroyed. He refused to go back into the game, remember? IN CASE YOU'VE FORGOTTEN, Melo was the guy who whined about not making the All-Star team, and scoffed at Andre Kirilenko making it ahead of him. IN CASE YOU'VE FORGOTTEN, Melo whined about not being selected to the USA Olympic team (which he was eventually, of course). now why would we want someone with that sense of entitlement, on a team that prides itself on selflessness, hard work, and teamwork?
they wouldn't have been better because melo don't fit in the pistons team. he is a good offensvie player but not defensive. rip is both! and i can understand y they took prince over melo. because he fits in the team! melo don't!and sheed made them better they won the campionship because sheed came and they had an even better defensvie team! with melo they would never have won the title END OF STORY!
