The Cavs currently have three free agents (after losing Boozer, who was their fourth). Ruben Bournjie Bournjie, Lee Nailon and Eric Williams are those three. What I was wondering is: what do you people think is going to happen to these players? Bournjie Bournjie has only played something like two games since coming from Portland, spending the rest of the season on the injury list. Probably won't be re-signed - I think they only got him in the first place to get Jeff McInnis and I will be surprised if they keep him, what with the signing of Hunter and Traylor. Lee Nailon is proably the most useful of these players, although he is a little inconsistant. With the drafting of Luke Jackson and the picking up of Pavlovic, I will be surprised if they keep him also, although he is probably the most likely of these three to be retained, even though he has been dropped by some pretty lowly teams, namely Orlando and Atlanta. Eric Williams was supposed to be Ricky Davis' replacement, and while he may have been a better influence both on and off the court, he almost never put up the same sort of numbers as Ricky after his first month or so. A bit inconsistant again, and probably not the offensive power that Nailon can be, although has the ability to turn it on when he needs to. Probably won't be kept, as with the other two. I will be surprised if any of these players are re-signed, as no talk has come out of the club concerning any of them. Lee Nailon is the only one they will think about keeping, I think, but none of them are really worth keeping, as they have enough back-ups on the bench, in nearly every position. I know I've gone on for a long time here, a lot longer than I planned to, and I'm sorry, but what are everyone elses thoughts on this subject?
Well, you can count out Eric Williams because he has signed with the New Jersey Nets (which I will start a new thread on). I would like to see Lee Nailon brought back because he really helped the Cavs coming off the bench as a solid scorer and rebounder. Ruben Boumtje-Boutmtje most likely won't be brought back, as he was of no use to the Cavaliers last season after the trade for Jeff McInnis.
Cavs management and Nailon agreed that he looked elsewhere to play. Silas loves Nailon but there is obviously no room left on the roster for him to get minutes. They let Boom walk along time ago. And EWill is now the property of the New Jersey Nets.
As much as I like Lee Nailon, it's probably a good thing that they didn't hold onto him any longer. Luke Jackson, Alexander Pavlovic and Ira Newble can hold the SF position for the whole season and should do fairly well. Also, they would have had fourteen players if he had stayed, which would have created not enough playing time for some of the developing players. Thirteens not much better, but players are obviously going to get injured, so the numbers will fall at those times and players like DeSagna Diop and Dajuan Wagner don't get much game time any way.
Lee Nailon probably wouldn't get a deal anywhere around the league anyhow. If an injury comes to the Cavaliers at some point of the season, I wouldn't be suprised to see Lee back with a 10 day contract.
Infante, you may be right but Lee would still be a very solid player for Cleveland. I would even play him as the back-up SF. He can score points in bunches plus with his big body, he can grab some boards.
