Its been mentioned on nba.com, hoopshype.com and espn.com...Chicago reportedly has a lot of interest in Rockets guard Eric Piatkowski and has talked about trading newly-acquired center Dikembe Mutombo in return...Its a hot rumor right now and it works for both teams...how soon can Mutombo be traded? I thought a player who was just acquired can be traded within 48 hours (like when Rasheed Wallace was traded to Atlanta then immediately traded to Detroit) or else then they have to wait till December 15th, when Mutombo can be traded again...Does anyone know how this works?
The player traded for can be traded, as long as he is the only player in the trade sent by the team. Meaning Dikembe can be traded by himself for Pike. However, the Bulls cannot trade Dikembe and another player in the same package. That being said....I hope the deal does happen.
^^ thanks a lot, I was wondering how that worked out...I believe the salaries match straight up, or possibly the Rockets might have to include some of their trade exception...im not so sure tho...
Would this trade really chagne the final outcome of each team? Both veterans that are at the tailend of their career, nothing but lower-tier role players. I guess Chicago could use some shooting.
The deal helps the Rocket's obviously. Can you imagine Yao and Mutombo on the floor at the same time? Scary stuff. I mean, Mutombo will just take Yao's cleanup minutes, but im sure Mutombo and Yao will be on the floor together a lot. In the playoffs, thats scary. Mutombo still has some game left in him if healthy.
Like it was said, Dikembe can be dealt at any time, but cannot be traded with another player (ie- Mutombo and Shirley for Piatkowski). Mutombo for Piatkowski does not work straight up. The Rockets would have to add another player (that's allowed I think) or they would have to add the trade exception they currently have. Using the exception seems the most likely option. Mutombo wants to play for a championship contender, and Houston is now a championship contender after the McGrady trade. He could also end up back in Denver, which reportedly he would agree too.
I hope this deal works out. Bulls need some shooting, Rockets will need a solid backup to Yao, since Cato is now gone.
I like the deal..the Bulls get a 3 point threat who can come off of the bench and give you a decent outing and the Rockets get the bigman backup that they need..and probably the most foreign C core in the league.
Well Deke's salary is in the 4.5 Million dollar range, and I'm not sure about Eric's contract, but I doubt it's close enough to that his contract to make it work with the salary cap.
Mutombos salary is 4.5 mill and Piatkowski's is 2.7 mill so the Rockets would have to include some of their trade exception, which they are reportedly willing to do...
I hope this works out, would love to see Deke in a Rockets uniform backing up Yao. And playing them at the same time would be the Twin Towers back in Houston, only a couple of inches taller than the Original Twin Towers, Olajuwon and Sampson.
It's been a few days and it appears as if this rumor may be fading, but I was wondering if anyone had heard any more news on this possible deal.
Its all over hoopshype.com that Mutombo's agent, david falk, will be forcing a trade to the Rockets as early as Thursday so I expect something to be done soon...Falk is the best agent in the biz...
