For some reason I thought it was a good idea to go to the Yahoo chat rooms and recruit some hoops fans. Anyways there was this cat there that supposedly was a huge Knicks fan and we got to talking and he started talkin' about how much he loved "The Dunk". He said it was the greatest dunk ever on Michael Jordan so we argued, because that dunk WAS NOT on Money. Let me draw it out. Starks is coming up court. He crosses half-court and BJ Armstrong comes with the D. Starks gives BJ his back and works toward the right wing on the outer perimeter. Oakley or Ewing comes and sets a pick, freeing Starks from Armstrong. Starks explodes toward the lane, driving hard after the pick. At this time Horace Grant, who had been standing on the outside of the lane on the left side, immediatey comes to the right side of the lane to anticipate Starks. Also at this time Jordan is at the top of the lane and seeing Starks drive toward the basket he comes to give Horace help. By this time Starks has taken off and is soaring thru the air toward the basket. Grant gets there in time but is unable to stop him. Jordan jumps to try and help but is still in front of the basket and too far from the basket to do any good. Starks dunks it home with authority over Grant with some big ups. Nowhere was this dunk on Jordan. Jordan was in the vicinity but thats it he wasn't in good enough position to contest the dunk. I know all of you have heard of 'The Dunk' and how great it was. Don't get me wrong it was a great play and it re-amped the Knicks and the MSG crowd, but alot of people think it's something its not. I have watched this play a 100 times if not more and it is mos def not a dunk 'on Jordan'.
I watched it too, all the Knicks fans, no matter how old, know about THE DUNK. It was over Jordan....Well, we Knicks fans like to think that it was.

No matter how you slice it,turn it and look at it it wasn't over Jordan at all.
The Dunk Well in its own way for many Knicks fans this Dunk equaled them getting a victory over the Bulls with MJ. It was on the big stage at the Garden so they have to stay under the delusion(mispelled?) that it was on MJ and not Horace because if it was remember as being on Ho Grant then it takes the the edge of its legacy. This in its own way takes of some of the pain of Charles Smith etc. Plus alot of highlights at the time was showing it from the other angle behind MJ, which made it look like MJ was more in the play then he really was. Anyway truth be told the greatest dunk in the whole Knicks vs Bulls rivilary was when MJ fake to the Middle on Starks, drove Baseline and proceeded to put Patrick Ewing in the basket. And before MJ's feet touch the ground completely, he made sure to tell Pat just how dirty he had just got it.
Me too, I think of MJ as one of my Idols and if I know something is incorrect about him then I dont believe it. That dunk by Starks was over Horace Grant more than over MJ but MJ was still in the play, no being dunked on though. I still love that dunk I just saw it today I think on NBA TV, on a show called Over Time and they showed it I think. BTW what is Starks full name??

As a Knick fan that is the Greatest Dunk in Knick History. True Knick fans know Jordan would of never gotten there in time. I also think Starks caught the Bulls off-guard by how high he got-up. I know I didn't expect him to elevate the way he did.
http://media.nba.com/media/mcgrady_t_dunk_4_cc1117.avi What about this dunk by T-Mac on Othella Harrington.
