Article from the Akron Beacon Journal:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Can Drew Gooden become another Carlos Boozer, an impact rebounder? No one thought Boozer would be that coming out of Duke. Or how about Horace Grant out of Clemson? The Cavaliers want to find out. Gooden has a 6.5 rebounding average in 27 minutes per game over his first two seasons.

    • Why do the Cavaliers think he can rebound better? Because he averaged 14 points and 12 boards in a seven-game playoff series against the Detroit Pistons in 2003. An athletic 6-foot-10, 242 pounds, the scouts who like Gooden believe that if you simplify his role and just insist he hit the boards, he can produce.

    • Why has Gooden already been traded twice? Drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies, he was moved from power forward in college to small forward in the NBA. Memphis had upcoming star Pau Gasol at forward. Gooden often seemed lost at small forward, leading some scouts to question his basketball IQ. He was shipped to Orlando, moved back to his natural position, and played well, averaging 13.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and shooting 50 percent in 18 games for the Magic in the spring of 2003.

    • What happened last season? The Magic dealt for Juwan Howard, who started at power forward. Gooden was moved between the two forward spots. He averaged 11.8 points, 6.5 rebounds and pouted because he didn't start and/or play as much as he thought he should. As one Cavaliers insider said: ``He was 22, on the worst team in basketball and didn't show a lot of maturity. But he's not a destructive guy and we think Paul (Silas) can really get him focused.''

    • One of the Cavaliers' sales pitches to Gooden will be this: You can rebound when you set your mind to it. Rebounders get paid. Look at what Boozer got. Look at Ben Wallace. This is a fresh start for you, and you're at one position. Now hit the boards.

    • Robert Traylor has long been a Silas favorite. Traylor is overweight, but does work hard. He sets sturdy picks. He will ``give us a nasty streak,'' said Silas, who knows the team needs more physical players to contend in the East, especially after losing Boozer.</div>

Since registration is required to view ABJ articles, I would like it if those of you who are registered post new articles here.

Registration is free, so you guys should take the 2 minutes required to fill out the register and have access to many Cavs articles. This saves people from having to cut and paste all the time.

Yeah, but alot of people don't even take the time. I was thinking to make this thread the official ABJ article thread. Sorta like an archive of new articles because most of them consists of many different subjects rather than one.
