The Grizzlies have had a pretty dull offseason. All they've done so far is sign Brian Cardinal and give Battier an extension. Meanwhile, stars like Bryant, S.O'Neal, Stojakovic, Kidd, Carter, R.Allen, Pierce, McGrady, Francis, etc. have all been either rumored to be traded or actually have been traded. Does it upset you that they haven't made any big moves? I feel like the rest of the Western Conference teams are getting stronger while we're remaining idle. What do you think we should do?

The primary need would be to acquire a center. The Grizz right now have Wright at that position. He is pretty good, but average at best among the West. Also, he's had injury problems in the past and might not hold up for 82 games. With Yao, Duncan and Magloire in the same division as the Grizz, they would really need the beef up front to contend for a playoff spot. However, looking at the free agent market, it is now too late for the Grizz to grab a center who could really be an upgrade. I suggest that the Grizz wait out this season and pray they make the playoffs, and try to grab a center in the draft next year, or sign a free agent. However, knowing West, I suspect that a move is on the way.

I like that the team hasn't changed much.

The only things I'd like to see happen are the removal of Mike Miller from the roster (I hate that guy) and the addition of a servicable centre. (Instead of the Trybanski/Tsakalidis "giant white dunk fodder" or the Swift/Wright "six ten, two thirty is big enough" centres we've had.)

I don't think anybody's signed any of our (two) free agents either. Stro and Jake might even be back, but I'm not sure that they have roster spots any more, with Emmett and Burks (and that other guy) joining the team as this years Bell and Jones.

Though we did lose Smith, so I think we still have a spot left. Dampier hasn't signed yet, so maybe he'll do the right thing and sign a series of one year contracts with the team.

Memphis will still likely be a playoff team as they are now but I see them as the 8th spot instead of the 6th like last season...

I think they'll finish about the same, or better.

They've stayed the same, and teams around them who have gotten worse (LAL, SAC, DAL) will be below them, instead of ahead, others have improved a bunch (Utah, Denver, possibly Houston) and could pass them.

They've remained the same in that while there are a handful of teams better than them, they are better than more teams than not.

Of course no one has played a game, and at this point we're only guessing. Remember last season most "experts" called the Magic to win their division, not the draft lottery.

    Also,
Don't forget that for the last two months of the season the Grizzlies were the best team in the NBA. Of course they fell apart at the end, and were spanked pretty good by San Antonio, they've improved too.

They're older, more mature, don't have many new guys to get used to, have spent time together, etc., etc., and have even added a couple good pieces, while not giving up anyone significant.

The Grizzlies are going up, if anywhere.
