<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dennis Scott hasn't played in the NBA in three years, but he can't help but wonder if it's time to come out of retirement. Still the most prolific 3-point shooter in Magic history, Scott is appalled by the lack of decent shooters around the league today. Scott, 35, might be getting a call soon from the Miami Heat, who desperately need a few more long-distance shooters to complement O'Neal. "For me, shooting the 3 is like riding a bike,'' Scott said. "I could still help a team today because I can still make them with my eyes closed.'' Another guy who could end up in Miami is veteran point guard Rod Strickland, who played half of last season in Orlando. Strickland already played for the Heat once in his career, and the Heat could use him again. A veteran like Strickland would allow the Heat to use rising star Dwyane Wade some at shooting guard, where he still is more comfortable.</div>Not much to read registration required
I really liked Dennis when he was playin for the Magic along with Nick Anderson, Shaq, Penny, and Grant. It would be great to see him on the floor again. I dont know if he still has the touch.
D.Scott use to be a killer. But his last few years in the league he just didnt seem to have it anymore. He was a bit out of shape. This seems like a deal Shaq is pulling the strings on because of his relationship with Dennis. But from an on court stand point if I was the Heat I would probably pass on D.Scott at this time. I dont know if Wesley Person was signed already but he would be a more safer choice than Scott. But signing Scott would keep Shaq happy. Its like when the Lakers brung in Shaw basically for Shaq. I guess we'll have some more crappy Shaq/D.Scott rap songs to look forward to like when they were in Orlando together. As far a Strick goes, I would have like the signing a couple weeks ago because Strick would really know how to get the ball to Shaq in the right spots to keep him happy. But now that the Heat have signed DJ and acquired Keyon Dooling, it doesnt really make alot of sense except to create a logjam in the backcourt. But Rod Strickland would really compliment that basketball team very well, helping take some of the ball handling pressure off D. Wade. And knowing how to keep Shaq happy due to his ablity to get people the ball in excellent spots. But he will take minutes away from Keyon Dooling, a young player who could really benefit from the experience in being in the everyday rotation.
It makes me sad when it looks like the Heat have absolutely no fall back for when Shaq (or any forward) gets injured. They lost 3 (unless you count Grant a C) for an injury prone Shaq. So what do they do? Sign Dooling and Jones. Those are both decent players, and losing Alston they definitely need a backup to Wade, but they don't need two. All through last season they got by on Wade and Alston. Now they want a third backup PG? I love Rasual, he's my favorite non-Dwyane player on the Heat, but he shouldn't be a starter. Same with Malik. You could double up PGs and start Eddie at SF, but if/when Shaq goes down all you have are Doleac and Wang, two awful Cs. Yes I witnessed Wang's "good" playoff year in Dallas, but that certainly doesn't make him a starter. Or you could move Haslem up to C, and bring in Rasual (if they double up on PGs) or Malik off the bench. Now, where's the bench? Dooling, Scott, or Jones. The Heat need more big guys if they want to win the championship Shaq promised, not backup PGs.
If we can sign Dennis Scott for the minimum, we should, he would add depth to the SG/SF position and that's what we need atm. I dunno about strickland, if we're looking for 3pt shooters he isn't our best option, I'd prefer dennis scott, and the PG spot is crowded so he has no use to us. I don't think they will sign him. Damn shaq's got a belly, better lose it quick before the season starts I really don't care if shaq misses like 20 games as long as he's healthy come playoff time, when it really matters. Other than that, winning the most games in the regular season means nothing to me, look at the pacers last season, they had the best record but when o'neal and tinsley got injured their playoff run was over (and I think they wouldve whooped the pistons had those two been healthy)
He might decide to start training during the first weeks of the season. Thats what he was doing during his tenure with the Lakers the past few years. LOL. Nah, I think he'll be in shape before the season starts. He is starting new and has something to prove.
Dennis Scott would be a good back uo SG who we need rikght now. He was great in Orlando when they had the Shaq/Penny times. Well it seems Dennis Scott is confident about himself right now from what I've read. Shooting 3s would benefit our team greatly as we can get a lot in there. With Shaq giving some open looks to 3 point specialist people. Rod Strikland isn't really needed. I would put him behind Kenyon Dooling in the thing. PG-Damon Jones/Kenyon Dooling/Rod Strikland I think he deserves to be a back up PG and would be better off else where. I'm still waiting for the Mailman to come in though.
D.Scott coming outta retirement is just speculation, but it's a possibility with Shaq and D. Scott's relationship, plus the fact that the one of the Heat's main focus in recruiting has been 3pt shooters. if D.Scott can come off the bench and land 3pters, he would be worth it.
I heard he's around 300 pounds, which is horrible for a 6'8" player...he better be workin hard...I think Wesley Person would be a more safe choice; even Steve Kerr...but its intriguing and I wonder how he'll end up doing...
