Many people on this board say the Suns are in desperate need of a big man. While I definetly agree I disagree with the means to which some of you wish to recieve a big man. That would be trading one of the most consistent players in the NBA. The Matrix. Shawn Marion. Why would fans possibly want to trade him?
I was agaisnt it the whole time. We can trade JJ and a 2 round dp for a big man. Marion can shoot, jump, and can play d. It would be a mistake to get rid of him.
I think it's a toss up either way. We lose a good player if we trade either of them. With JJ just starting (hopefully) to come into his own, it's hard to look into the future and say which would ultimately be the better fit and contribute more. In any case, we need a big man.

Marion is vastly overrated, IMO...he can run and jump, but those guys are a dime a dozen...he cant shoot consistently, has no perimeter game, lives off of fast breaks and dunks and the transition game...I think he could be a much better defender than what he is...hes extremely athletic, but thats really all i can say for him...

JJ is the more rounded player and after last year's mid-season, more consistant. He's definitely got the athleticism. I like his defense abilities as well, especially being, what, 6'8" at his position.

Marion shoots 44% from the floor and around 35% from three-point line, is that not consistant enough for you? All people thought Marion could do was dunk on the break because of playing with Jason Kidd but Marion proved he can play without Kidd and create his own offense and score in the half-court set. He puts up 19,9 and 3 while playing decent to good defense, why would you trade him for a center just because you need one? That center won't even be anywhere close to the player Marion is. Seems totally pointless to even consider trading him.
Has anyone actually watched Marion's shooting? He has a really ugly shot. I have never liked Marions game, i think its pure speed...once he loses this his career will be over because he has a bad shot. I've been a suns fan my whole life..i just don't see what the big deal is about Marion.
I had season tickets last year and behind ray allen and Kobe. Marion is Third like AllNet said" his J is consistent as u can get. he is complete player!
Marion Overrated? Please. OKAY on defense. Come on guys. Shawn Marion is one of those players every team needs. He is very consistent, a given 19-20 ppg 9-10rpg and 2-4 spg. He shoots a great percentage from about everywhere. He is in the top tier in terms of free-throw shooting, he shot 350% from 3 (not the best but consistent enough), and shot 44% from the field. He consistently leads the his team in steals and was first in the NBA in that department last year. He ALWAYS guars the others teams best player and is a great defensive player. He is long, agressive, and hungry on D. He also is the leading rebounder on the Suns, at SF! This guy is not ovverated! He is the best SF in the game today no question. Peja is a nice player don't get me wrong but he is not as complete as Marion. He does not give you the defense, rebounding, steals that Marion gives. He is a great shooter yes, and a better shooter then Marion. Peja also is not a clutch player (PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR)! I know I started this thread about the whole Marion Trade. My opinion on it is don't let it happen. Keep, Marion, Keep JJ, Keep Q, Keep Nash, Keep Amare. Let these players grow together and become a championship caliber team within the next few years. If I were Bryan C. I would pick up a free-agent center (Joel P. from the Hawks?) , and wait and see what happens with all those draft picks and either pick up a center in the draft, or trade for one with those picks. Also a trade with Casey J. Milos V., and a pick or something would make good sense. Just some thoughts of mine. Let's get some more opinions on this topic.
I'm definately not ready, their's not really a center I can see out their right now (that is acquirable) that would match how much Marion would help the team. Dampier is there, but I don't think he's the greatest option considering how much he wants etc. Also about Marion being overatted and can't shoot or doesn't play good defense, I don't know what to say......very off base. Even with his outside shooting, since he became a pretty good outside shooter this was his worst shooting year. He shot 38% and 39% the last 2 previous years, the guy can shoot, just because his form doesn't look like Ray Allen's doesn't mean it doesn't go in.

www.hoopshype.com it is reporting the suns are planning on trading him after the olympics if they get a offer for a solid big man. I dont know why they would trade him he can do it all and is a great defender. He got shut down the last time they were in the playoffs, but he is still good. Can score 24 a night if he wants and rebound well as well as pass. I would be dying to get him if I am a GM.
If we get a PF who can play c I will be happy(Jermaine O')as well, But not Ratliff and Magilore. Their not in the Matrix's league!
Well we aren't going to get a Jermaine O'neal or Elton Brand etc for Marion, we're going to get a Ratliff, Magloire, Ilguaskas or Dampier for Marion, if you're expecting JO then you're setting yourself up to get crushed. The thing is Marion is probably the best complimentary/2nd guy to have but isn't a franchise player because he can't take over offensively and create for teamamtes effectively enough, if he could he'd be up there in best players in the league because for his position he can do a lot.
He shot below 40% this year...that is sad. I think the whole NBA shooting percentage is sad. The MFers need to spend some time in the gym and shoot some shots. Geesh....what happened to the Larry Birds and Magics? Did everyone forget how to shoot? Look at Team USA for perfect example.....

Shawn Marion is not a great shooter, but he takes quality shots and knows what it takes to win.
