Rockets sign Sura and Ward In an attempt to deepen there point guard spot Houston signed two veterans and college teammates, in Charlie Ward, and Bob Sura. Ward, and Sura both attended FSU and were teammates on the basketball team. Do you think this was a move forward or a step backward by the Rockets?
it's great move for the Rockets.. Nobody realize how good is Bob Sura.. I'm a big Knicks fan.. I know Charlie Ward.. He's one of best defensive point guards and probably one of pure shooters.. The Rockets need Ward more than Lue.. Bob Sura does everything.. He had 4 triple-doubles (with the Hawks)... Tracy McGrady should be happy right now..
I'd take Tyronn Lue over Charlie Ward any day at point guard. However, both of them are horribly underrated, IMO. As for Sura, great move, he's versatile and can do what Houston wants off the bench or as a starter. Another underrated player. Good signings by the Rockets.
I think its a good move for the Rockets...they definitely could've done a lot worse...Sura will be the backup swingman who can score, pass and play D; your ideal sixth/seventh man...Ward will likely be the starting PG but I see Lue playing more minutes...now the Rockets have great depth for the backcourt spots, and if that rumored Mutombo deal goes through, we'll definitely be in great shape...
This is great for the Houston Rockets. Charlie Ward has been underrated his entire career and Sura was underrated as well simply because he had 'Hawks' across his chest. Now the Rockets need to add some big bodies and they'll be set for a championship run.
I agree great deal, the Rockets should definitely be taken seriously now if not already. As you guys mentioned having both Lue and Ward at PG will only benefit- and maybe it will bring out some competitiveness in them. I think Sura should be given at shot at the 2, at some point in the season at least. When he averaged over 30 mins with ATL he was 15, 8 and 5!
rapfan15. I agree with you on Sura. He should be given a chance at the SG spot, perhaps as the starter with Tracy McGrady shifting to SF? C- Ming PF- Howard SF- McGrady SG- Sura PG- Ward The 2 superstars (Ming and McGrady) are surrounded by great role players. While I think the Rockets may have to add another star player, they have the pieces of a championship team.
Great move by the Rockets they really needed to help the backcourt and it worked well , i think the rockets really have a good of doing well this year.
If we can add Mutombo to the mix, and he can contribute a solid 10-15 minutes per game, I think we're looking pretty good. Also, he's a good friend of assistant coach Ewing, so he might play well here.
Jeez, how many repeat threads do we have on these signings? Couldn't this have been discussed in the official signing thread? I feel that the Rockets took a huge step forward in rounding out their roster. The point guards are set with three players fighting for the starting spot and bringing depth to the bench. In fact, I don't see any signing as a step back.

I think that was a step back I like the versatility and depth these signings give the Rockets. T-Mac, JJ, and Nachbar can all play SF/SG.. Sura can play both guard positions and sometimes the 3.. Ward is good for the Rockets slow-down offense and can bury the 3, while Lue can push the ball when needed and penetrate inside. I think the Rockets probably have the deepest backcourt (1, 2 and 3 positions) in the league now.. Right up there with Phoenix and Nash/QRich/Marion/Johnson/Barbosa. JVG is probably a lot happier now than he was at the end of the season - he's got so many more tools to work with. A LOT better than scraping up NBA free agents from their retirement homes (ie. Oakley, Mark Jackson)
with all this talk, im beginning to think the Rockets have a shot...I hope Tmac believes in that and shows it

Even though Jackson and Oakley did do pretty well for us, they didn't bring the kind of leadership we needed, and Jackson was not present in the playoffs. Now our team isn't shaped on talent alone, but more focused on depth, which is a good thing; look at Memphis last season.
yea.. but memphis didn't have any bonified superstars (unless u consider gasol one).. so, we are gradually becoming a real deep lineup with a duo of superstars to go with it... thats gr8. we're gna be like the defensive version of the kings of 3 seasons ago.. lol jkz... we;re gna win a ch'ship, so theres a diff..
