<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The NBA Board of Governors on Wednesday unanimously approved the sale of the New Jersey Nets to an ownership group which plans to move the team to New York. The league expects the sale to the group led by Brooklyn developer Bruce Ratner to close next week. ``What was only an idea less than a year ago is quickly becoming a reality,'' Ratner said in statement released after the approval. Ratner and his group will pay an estimated $300 million to buy the much-traveled team from Community Young Organization. Ratner plans to build a 19,000-seat arena that will be part of a $2.5 billion office, residential and shopping complex. The arena, which faces opposition from area residents who might be displaced, is expected to be completed for the 2007-2008 season. The entire project is expected to take 10 years to complete. ``We're very thankful to Commissioner David Stern and the NBA's Board of Governors,'' Ratner said. ``We are humbled by this vote and excited about the prospects of putting together a team that all Nets fans in the Metropolitan area can be proud of.'' The borough has not had a major sports franchise since baseball's Dodgers left for Los Angeles in 1957. Ratner has come under criticism in recent weeks for cost-saving player moves that seemingly have hurt the Nets' chances to be successful on the court next season. All-Star power forward Kenyon Martin was shipped to Denver last month after the Nets realized that matching a proposed offer sheet by the Nuggets would force them to pay him $23 million in salary and front-loaded bonuses before the start of the season.</div> <div align="center">Link</div>
This is good news for me, I always wanted NY to have 2 basketball teams. It will be easier to watch nets games because its closer to me. All I want now is for the nets to get better and get new jerseys
do you not like the jerseys they have now? and you know how some games they have the players throwback jerseys what will they wear? another question i have is will their name be the Brooklyn Nets or will it be changed?
i belive taht is not decided on what there name mis yet. but to me this is the worst thing to happen to the nets(basically because im in nj and i love this team and moving to brooklyn would suck @$$) i highly doubt that they wil have any more people come to their games than they have in NJ
i know its really not fair to move the nets i mean New York all ready has a team i really think they should improve the arena they have now and that might help.the ownership team should read these boards sometime because most of the people on here are fans including myself and they should be listening to the fans and not be doing what they want to do. and does anybody know the main reason they're moving the nets to brooklyn? i havent read any good reasons yet

Contenial Airlines arena is in a horrible location, their is very little major transportation that allows people outside the immediate area to get to the arena. Now that the arena is moving to a major area it will allow access to more to people. I think Bruce Ratner will be trying to lure the same type of fans & sponsers(mispelled) as the Knicks have coming to their games, and thats the more Wall Street, type of community. Now they will have access to the games, thats why he moving the team to Brooklyn.
isnt Jay-Z involved in this group thats moving the nets. i heard it somewhere ahile back which is one of the reason for choosing brooklyn because thats were hes from
Jay-Z owns a portion, but it's not significant in that he can change what goes on with the franchise. I think he was allowed in because he can promote Brooklyn. Otherwise, he's not much more. However, I'd like to see his line of clothing design the Nets a new Uni.
