Would you do a sign and trade for Shareef? And can you do a sign and trade in return for players with expiring contracts? Because I think Shareef would make a nice addition as a backup or starter. Although he's not as gifted defensively he could provide some scoring punch and we will need scoring punch, especially in the post since we have absolutely no post presence. Plus Berkley fans might love it.
I would do it. Maybe this would be Shareef's chance to show he could be on a winning team. He reminds me alot of Jamison in the way he scores alot of points, but has never shown he can lead a team and win...
He is definitely not a leader, but we really missed out on Jamison's scoring ability and 'Reef could provide a whole lot of ways to score when we need it. The good thing is we get offensive talent and we'd be able to patch up any holes in the defense with Crob or D-square. Plus Cal fans would love it as I mentioned before.
Anything positive for Dampier is welcome at this point, and I would love to get Abdul-Rahim for Dampier for sure. To make things better, he only has 1 year left, so even if things go bad, we can simply let him go...
Wow, I'm surprised by all the positivity surrounding Shareef. Put me down as a resounding no. I've always thought that he has no true position. He can't shoot or handle the ball well enough for the three and he doesn't have the bulk to handle the four. He's simply awful defensively and after eight years in the league has not really improved on that side of the floor. Basically he's Antawn Jamison; slightly better and more expensive. We've tried that and it doesn't work.
He is a better version of Antwan, no doubt about that. He has not improved, but like someone said earlier, if he sucks, we can trade him to another team for cap relief or keep him for ourselves. Personally, I think he could be a part of our winning team. The only reason why he is not a star is because he has never been on a winning team.
I don't think he'll ever be star in the truest sense, because on a winning team he'll never play more than twenty minutes a game. He like Jamison, I think, is better suited as an energy provider off the bench where his defensive limitations can be shadowed. He would be ideal as a kind of jump starter for a teams transition game. The big question is will he accept that role? He was sixth or seventh in the rotation at the end of last year and that didn't sit too well with him, and as far as the trade value of his expiring contract, I'd say that it is contingent on his attitude in accepting this lesser role. I don't believe that any team will look to Shareef as being their go to guy ever again, so as long as he sees himself that way, he could possibly pose a problem in the clubhouse. If there is a number one pick coming over with him , then it may be worth considering, but do we really want to take playing time from Murphy in the last year of his contract?
