<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Their chances are considered slim, if not none, but the Knicks could find out as soon as today if Erick Dampier is going to wind up as their starting center for next season. Returning to work after moving into his Westchester home last week, team president Isiah Thomas is expected to talk to Dampier and his agent, Dan Fegan, in what could be a last-ditch effort to work the impossible. For nearly two months, Thomas has been unable to work a sign-and-trade with Golden State, and nothing has changed on that front. The Warriors have no interest in Kurt Thomas or anyone else that Thomas has offered. So Isiah Thomas somehow will have to convince Dampier to take the mid-level exception, starting at around $5 million, rather than the four-year, $40 million standing offer that the Atlanta Hawks have on the table. Several league sources said that Dampier, 30, who walked away from $17 million that he had coming to him from the Warriors over the next two years in order to gain his free agency this summer, is not about to pass up the Hawks' money. Memphis has also tried to land Dampier, who attended the Grizzlies' two home playoff losses to San Antonio and comes from Monticello, Miss. But as much as team president Jerry West wants to get him and move Pau Gasol to power forward, the Grizzlies have been unable to strike a deal with the Warriors. One person with knowledge of the trade talks said last night that Memphis is out of the running, adding, "We all expect Dampier to go to Atlanta. They've got more money than anybody else."</div> link Well unexpected to me from all the rumors that dampier would take less money to play for new york in the knicks board. If they sign dampier along with there rookies walker and harrington they will have a good shot at having a above .500 record next season if Dampier is good and did not just play good due to his contract situation. I cant wait for him to be off the market so all these trade rumors over where he will go can stop and everyone can move on with there lives. I felt the same way about the crawford trade cant wait to see this free agent get off the market.

Not only do i hope dampier brings his a game. i hopt he doesnt ask for too much and allow us to go after some more free agents this next summer. Hopefully walkerconvinced him to play for us. in my opininon if things go well with signing of walker next year and no one demands a trade. With a convinving season maybe some free agents will be knoking down our door next year. Either way it goes i still think 2005-2006 is our breakout year.
This is great news, i hope he signs with ATL. They Hawks would have one of the deadliest frontlines in the game, Dampier, Walker, Harrington... I think that if no one demands a trade this upcoming season then the Hawks have a good core to build around over the next few years.
yeah if he signs with atlanta, yall will have a pretty nice team...dampier/walker/harrington...hopefully diaw has improved...plus yall acquired predrag drobnjak from charlotte today and hes a nice scorer at the center spot and should thrive in the east...
This is great news for the hawks, i think damp might take it, its so much money to pass up plus antione is convinceing him.
:thumbsdow <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Sprite:</div><div class="quote_post">This is great news for the hawks, i think damp might take it, its so much money to pass up plus antione is convinceing him.</div> Dampier has officially been traded to the dallas mavricks. Look in the nba general forum for more information. The Hawks may perssue a trade for swift now, but who can they offer besides diaw is really the only guy added with a future pick or they could offer 6.9 million and hope that West doesnt match.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> OAKLAND, Calif. -- Erick Dampier's odyssey will apparently wind up not in the Big Apple but in Big D. The Dallas Mavericks have agreed in principle to a trade that would send forwards Eduardo Najera and Christian Laettner, two future first-round picks and cash to the Golden State Warriors, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher on Tuesday. In exchange, the Mavs would acquire Dampier, center Evan Eschmeyer and guard Dan Dickau from Golden State. The deal, however, cannot be consummated until later this summer because NBA rules stipulate that no player may be dealt twice within a two-month period. Both Laettner and Dickau were traded earlier this summer. Calls to Dampier's cell phone were not immediately returned Tuesday night and his agent, Dan Fegan, also didn't immediately respond to a message left by the Associated Press. The trade also is contingent on Dampier reaching agreement with the Mavericks, an NBA source told the AP. Dampier opted out of his contract with the Warriors in late June and became a free agent. The 6-foot-11 veteran, who spent the past seven seasons with Golden State, met with the New York Knicks and several other teams in recent weeks. He apparently will also forgo a six-year, $50 million offer from the Atlanta Hawks. Dampier, drafted 10th overall by Indiana in 1996, hoped to join the New York Knicks as part of a sign-and-trade deal, but the Warriors refused to take on salary to accommodate their former starting center's wishes. He was also wooed by Jermaine O'Neal, who would have liked to have had the 6-foot-11, 270-pound Dampier do the dirty work inside for the Pacers, who were overwhelmed by Detroit's frontcourt in their Eastern Conference finals loss in this year's NBA playoffs.</div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1861620 Link and full story for anyone who is intrested and does not feel like looking in another thread just to read the story. ANyway the hawks are really screwed at the center spot if k-mart had accepted there offer imagine there front line. Walker, harrington, and k-mart.
there goes dampier... and who's next? swift? come on guys, we've been pursing free agents and still we haven't found a reliable center for d team. guess i hav to take a look at next year's free agents.
Figures, that's just the luck of Atlanta. It's a damn shame because the Hawks coulda really benefited from this and possibly in the playoff hunt.
well guys like brendon haywood, kwame brown. jrich and others are going to be free agents next year so we can look for those guys. realistically i might see brendon coming here. And also i think this could be a good for the hawks anyway this way we maybe can get two guys for the price of one dampier. we need a bench also just not a great starting line. so peace out dampier. i dont really know how hell fair in a run and gun scheme of play. but money makes the world go round.
i guess the hawks might make a move at swift but I wouldn't be surprised if we stayed how we are. the fa pool next year is suppose to be better so we may be able to get some good people there.
well, if the hawks can't get somebody else right now, i bet they're looking for other guys next season or a change this coming december and before the trade deadline. one of them is JRichardson but i guess he's already stuck up with the warriors, he's the up-tempo guy of that team. check out the top free agents next year: 1. P Gasol(restricted FA) 2. R Allen 3. T Parker 4. JRich (restricted FA) 5. Z Ilgauskas 6. Z Randolph 7. R Jefferson 8. J Tinsley 9. Joe Johnson 10. Troy Murphy well then, BK has to ponder into this and get things done in doing of what could be better for the team. but for now, maybe BK has to check out steven hunter and mo williams into this. i think they have the will to improve and help the hawks in their rebuilding mode, opportunities for improvements is in this. i hope BK has a lot of tricks to pull out of his pocket nowadays and get moving. im sure the hawks are better than this. or pull in kenny anderson and kevin willis for a better wisdom on our younger guys riding the roster. good luck for us all anyway. Peace!
