<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The New York Knicks on Wednesday re-signed forward Vin Baker despite his history of alcohol-related problems.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is likely a far cry from the seven-year, $86 million contract he signed with the Seattle SuperSonics in 1999.

Baker, 32, averaged 9.8 points and 5.2 rebounds in 54 games with the Boston Celtics and the Knicks last year. He averaged 11.3 points and 5.7 rebounds in 37 games, including 33 starts, with Boston before being suspended indefinitely for violating terms of his alcohol treatment program.

After missing 10 games, Baker's contract was terminated with 2 1/2 years and $35 million remaining. He, in turn, filed a grievance, which was settled with the Celtics in April.

Baker was declared a free agent on March 11 and signed with the Knicks the next day. In 17 games with New York, he averaged 6.6 points and 4.1 points.</div>

Nothing surprising, seeing as that the Knicks lost in the Erick Dampier sweepstakes, they had to settle for Vin Baker.
