Ranter, care to comment on some of them? Which do you think is the most realistic? Best for the Cs? Etc.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ranter, care to comment on some of them? Which do you think is the most realistic? Best for the Cs? Etc.</div> I'm not sure he will yet, because it might tip future suggestions before the deadline. Sadly, there will be people who will take whatever he/we might comment on and try to tweak it to get an advantage. While we want this to be simplistic and fun, we want it to have some legitimacy to the process, so that hopefully it can be replicated in the future. I'm pretty sure ranter and I will get together and put together some form of write up and comment on some of the proposed trades after the winner is announced.
Ah, good thinking Hagrid. Didn't even cross my mind. Just wanted to see what people thought of the various trades already, but I suppose I'll have to wait. And not to dampen your Celtic Pride, but after perusing the various "opportunities" to trade GP, it ain't looking too good right now. Good luck with that, not sure you'll get close to anything useful in return. Because, as I see it, here are the options: 1)Trade him and Fox to a team that wants to dump cap. In which case you get a high salary player with a long contract that's not THAT good of a player (or else the other team wouldn't trade him), so you get stuck with him. And not sure that's a position the Celts want to be in. 2)Trade him for a young PG you think has potential, because I don't think any team would trade a PG for Payton that they know can play. So you're stuck with a guessing game. And not sure that's even that much better than Banks. 3)Don't trade him and take the cap relief next season. This may be the best option, but it doesn't help the Cs. Still no PG. Things aren't looking too bright. I'll keep trying to help ( ). So without further ado, here's using option #1: Boston trades: PG Gary Payton (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 5.5 apg in 34.5 minutes) SF Rick Fox (4.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg in 22.3 minutes) C Michael Stewart (0.5 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 0.0 apg in 5.9 minutes) Toronto trades: SG Jalen Rose (15.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 5.0 apg in 66 games) Why Toronto does this: As much as they like Jalen Rose, they don't like him nearly as much as they hate his $14.5 million contract. This gives them the perfect chance to dump him, leaving them approximately $5-7 million under the cap next year. Why Boston does this: None of the players traded add much to their team, and they are able to pick up a former All-Star, who can play the point, and actually might fit in well in the tough/big/athletic style that Ainge and Rivers seem to be going in. Not sure this would work, but it's an attempt.
First off, Toronto wouldn't be doing it for Mike Stewart. The idea is that his contract ends after this year, so it helps them dump cap. Not sure Payton would even play for Toronto, only Rick Fox would provide marginal help to the team. But that's not why they do the trade. They dump Jalen's contract. And I wasn't referring to Rose actually being an All-Star, but rather being an All-Star caliber player. After all, the selections for the All-Star game are always subjective and met with criticism. I recall Rose being snubbed numerous times.
Atlanta trades: PG Tony Delk (6.0 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.9 apg in 15.4 minutes) PF Chris Crawford (10.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.8 apg in 21.6 minutes) PF Al Harrington (13.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.7 apg in 30.9 minutes) Atlanta receives: C Raef LaFrentz (7.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.4 apg in 19.3 minutes) PG Gary Payton (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 5.5 apg in 34.5 minutes) SF Rick Fox (4.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg in 22.3 minutes) Change in team outlook: -2.3 ppg, +0.3 rpg, and +6.1 apg. Boston trades: C Raef LaFrentz (7.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.4 apg in 19.3 minutes) PG Gary Payton (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 5.5 apg in 34.5 minutes) SF Rick Fox (4.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg in 22.3 minutes) Boston receives: PG Tony Delk (6.0 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 0.9 apg in 33 games) PF Chris Crawford (10.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 0.8 apg in 56 games) PF Al Harrington (13.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.7 apg in 79 games) Change in team outlook: +2.3 ppg, -0.3 rpg, and -6.1 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Boston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Boston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Miami trades: SG Eddie Jones (17.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.2 apg in 37.0 minutes) PG Damon Jones (7.0 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 5.8 apg in 24.6 minutes) SG Wesley Person (5.8 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 17.9 minutes) Miami receives: C Raef LaFrentz (7.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.4 apg in 19.3 minutes) PG Gary Payton (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 5.5 apg in 34.5 minutes) SF Rick Fox (4.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg in 22.3 minutes) Change in team outlook: -2.9 ppg, +3.7 rpg, and -0.6 apg. Boston trades: C Raef LaFrentz (7.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.4 apg in 19.3 minutes) PG Gary Payton (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 5.5 apg in 34.5 minutes) SF Rick Fox (4.8 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg in 22.3 minutes) Boston receives: SG Eddie Jones (17.3 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.2 apg in 81 games) PG Damon Jones (7.0 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 5.8 apg in 82 games) SG Wesley Person (5.8 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 58 games) Change in team outlook: +2.9 ppg, -3.7 rpg, and +0.6 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Miami and Boston being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Miami and Boston had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Houston trades: SF Eric Piatkowski (4.1 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 14.3 minutes) SF Jimmy Jackson (4.1 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 14.3 minutes) Houston receives: PG Gary Payton (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 5.5 apg in 34.5 minutes) Change in team outlook: +10.5 ppg, +2.7 rpg, and +5.0 apg. Boston trades: PG Gary Payton (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 5.5 apg in 34.5 minutes) Boston receives: SF Eric Piatkowski (4.1 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 49 games) SF Jimmy Jackson (4.1 ppg, 1.5 rpg, 0.5 apg in 49 games) Change in team outlook: -10.5 ppg, -2.7 rpg, and -5.0 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Nothing spectaluar, but it's more likely than most of the trades I've seen, two expiring contracts and two good veterans for the malcontent Payton
Correct me if I'm wrong but Gary said he'll retire before coming here because he don't want to move his family anymore. So here is my question, what will happen if he does retire? Do the Celts get those players back or what, how does this work?
Entry #1. Dallas trades: PG Avery Johnson (4.6 ppg, 0.7 rpg, 2.4 apg in 13.8 minutes) C Calvin Booth (4.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 0.4 apg in 17.0 minutes) SF Jerry Stackhouse (13.9 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 4.0 apg in 29.8 minutes) Dallas receives: PG Gary Payton (14.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 5.5 apg in 34.5 minutes) C Raef LaFrentz (7.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.4 apg in 19.3 minutes) Change in team outlook: -1.0 ppg, +0.7 rpg, and +0.1 apg. I thought he was dealt to Golden State in the Van Exel trade? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that he's also a free agent who'll most likely retire.
Oh ok. They had him on the Mavricks roster on RealGM, I will edit it. Sorry about that. I think they would still have his rights if he wanted to come back this year.
