China lost again in the Olympics, as they were blown out yet again against Italy, 52-89. Yao Ming put out another dismal performance with only 9 points and 6 rebounds, going along with 4 turnovers. He shot a nightmarish 3/12 from the field, and although his 9 points led his team, this was a great chance lost by the Chinese. Now, they have to win their last game against powerhouse Serbia to at least have a chance at making the playoff phase of the competition. If the Chinese team doesn't make the playoffs, Yao Ming will have to not shave for six months, a vow made before the start of the Olympics.

I am just really disappointed at the moment. Coming into the olympics, everyone, including me, had high hopes for China as I thought they were top 5. Yao ming puts up 39 and 13 one night, and now 9 points and 6 rebounds, he is way too inconsistent. I just hope they win their last game, I don't want to see Yao with a beard.

It's not totally Yao's fault. He's got no talent around him. China is really behind when it comes to playing basketball. They might Serbia they have a 1-3 record.

im shocked at Yao's inconsistency so far, against far inferior opponents than what he sees in the NBA...first off, how does he ONLY get 12 shots off? He should be around the 20-25 shot/game range...not only that, but hitting only 3/12 is horrible as well...i hope Yao picks it up because he has disappointed me greatly during Olympic play, but then again, who hasnt?

Yao Ming's inconsistency is the only thing that is keeping him from greatness- that and perhaps dominance in the low post. Do not blame it on everyone on his team, there are some tough players on his team that have talent, just inconsistent like him. China is sure to lose to powerhouse Serbia in the next game so you can expect Yao to have a beard in the NBA.

Well said. What bothers me is the fact that while none of Yao's teammates played better than he has, none of them have received the heat that Yao has. I guess this is part of the burden that you carry on your back when you are the leader of your team. If you put Yao on a team like USA, I can guarantee that he will face less than half the criticism than that he is facing right now.

I don't think Yao's problem is inconsistency so much. When he plays against quick, aggressive double teams, he struggles. When his defender doesn't allow him to get good position, he struggles.

His problems stem primarily from inadequate stamina. He becomes tired and slow after a few minutes of running up and down the floor, and at that point its difficult for him to get good post position. And while he has relatively good hands for a big man, he isn't quick enough and coordinated enough to take control offensively when he's being surrounded by defenders.

Frankly, I'm not sure if Yao can overcome these limitations, and its basically what separates him from Shaq as far as becoming the next "dominant" player. Shaquille is gifted with unreal quickness, coordination, and energy -- all three of which are Yao's biggest weaknesses. Yao, of course, has that smooth jumper from about 10 feet, but when that's not falling and he's seeing aggressive double teams inside, he really has a hard time.

Man Yao's inconsistancy is really hurting his team. Though placing all the blame on him is stupid because he is doing his best. Leading a no talent team in the olympics is really hard added with his age I would say it must be overwelming (sp?) on such a huge stange. Hopefully he does well though you cant help, but wish the best for the guy.

Yao can only do so much by himself. Question, how many times did Yao get the ball in a good spot? i'd say 95% of the times the ball is throw in down low, Yao has to work hard himself to get the position he wants. He never gets the ball in a good position to score IMO. also, whenever Yao gets the ball he gets doubled or even triple-teamed. When he throws it out to the shooters, they throw up bricks. Seriously, i think my 5 year old cousin can shoot better then those people on team China. Team China right now look like the miama heat, minus Wade and EJ. but then again, he did get a beating from Pau Gasol...

Lol.. it was funny even watching the game against the Serbs which China won.. Chinese guards will have the ball on the wing with Yao posting down low.. they'll swing the ball to the other side of the court!!! Then when Yao moves to the other side of the court and seals off his man, they'll swing it back to the other side of the court!! I was like.. wtf are you doing??
