<div class="quote_poster">Quoting OrlandoSentinel.com:</div><div class="quote_post">Don't be surprised to hear word that Pat Riley and the Miami Heat are pursuing Memphis point guard Jason Williams, the former University of Florida player. New center Shaquille O'Neal has encouraged it, which is more than a little significant.

Getting Williams would allow Riley to use up-and-coming star Dwyane Wade as a shooting guard, which is his natural position, instead of at point, where he tried to play as a rookie last season.

Part of the deal would include Miami sending small forward Eddie Jones and either Damon Jones or Keyon Dooling to Memphis, who might throw in James Posey to make it work.

It's no coincidence that O'Neal and Williams are Central Florida neighbors with homes in Islesworth. Williams early in his career was both praised and criticized for his flashy style of play, but he has toned it down enough that he would work well with O'Neal. Together, they could make the Heat a joy to watch.</div>

not much to read, reg required

I dunno about this deal, I think D Wade is proving himself in the Olympics to be a PG and we should just be looking to sign a PF, and not lose EJ because he will be needed for his shooting skillz. Do you think Shaq wants EJ to stay or he'd welcome trading EJ?

Edit: I know there was a post about this before that said there was speculation but apparently there is talk going around again.

I really hope this trade goes down. Jason williams has proven he can make the play witht he kings and just get the job done in memphis.

with o'neal and d wade and newly aquired williams ( if trade goes down) they will only be a smallforward and power forward form greatness.

Though if posey was to be involved in this trade also; the heat would be on and popping.

    As a Grizz fan ...

J Will and Posey for EJ and Keyon and we can say is HELL NO! Posey was 1 of our top 3 playes last year, I feel he was our go to guy, no way would we trade him in any day that won't land us a star, now J Will and someone like Outlaw for Jones and Keyon maybe but definately not Posey!

WHat a steal for the heat if this trade goes down. Posey is a great under rated player getting him for a aging eddie jones just that right there is a steal for them. Then they get a pure point guard who a couple years back was considered one of the top in the league. That would be a solid starting lineup with shaq, posey, williams, and wade. Added with haselm or who ever starts at the four that would be a good starting lineup.

Then they have person coming off the bench with rasual butler and those guys and you have a good squad with adequate depth. Not great depth, but probably equal depth to what they had last season mabye a little more. I dont think they should include damon jones in the deal he is a good point guard witha good assists/turnover ratio.

Man I hope this trade goes down that'd be tight for the Heat...!!!!! Posey is a defensive beast and is a real good offesnive player too. Williams would easily fill the void of PG and let Wade tear things up at the 2... imagine Wade and J-Will in a backcourt... allyoop galore.

Well, as a Laker fan...I'll admit that this trade is a steal and could put the Heat in the East finals, maybe more. I didn't think a Wade/Jones/Shaq trio could make it very far just because Wade and Shaq will take time to function, and who knows how Jones will act since Shaq is in Miami and he's reunited with the guy that booted him off the Lakers. However, Jason Williams is one of the most talented players in the league, and it's not like he has to score...you have Shaq and Wade for that, and a rookie that has alot of potential in Dorell Wright. Nice trade...Posey is a good addition also...and you're getting rid of a big contract like Jones' (which is $13,440,000 this year), so it's a good idea to go with this...

Why would Memphis want Eddie Jones, especially when they have to give up 2 solid players who haven't even reached their prime to get him? Jerry West wouldn't do something this stupid. The problem with Miami trading for signifigant players is that they have nothing to offer, at least nothing they would give up.

This would be an amazing deal with the Heat, but it's highly unlikely considering Memphis is Jerry West's team and theres NO CHANCE he would ever approve of this.

Eddie Jones has always been one of my favorite players But Iam not doing this trade if Iam the Grizz. If you combine offensive production and defense, James Posey was the Grizz best perimeter player last year. And maybe even the team MVP. Eddie Jones isnt the perimeter defender he once was, when he can out of Temple, so I think with the Grizz playing in the same divison as T-mac and the same conference as Kobe, Ray Allen etc. I would rather have an Underatted defender like Posey, who can still bring that level of defense every night needed for the Grizz to compete against those likes.

Damon has definately made alot of improvements in his perimeter shot and his ablity to run a team since leaving the Grizz 3 years ago. But he still isnt a playmaker like a Jason Williams. And Keyon Dooling may have alot of potential, But injuries have really set him back over the years. And I dont see him being anything more than a 3 rd point guard on the Grizz behind DJ & Watson. So how much benefit will he really be. I see no reason for Memphis making this trade.

As for Miami I like the trade from the standpoint that James Posey may bring a little more consistency at this point in his career then Eddie can at this point. Eddie Jones consistency level seem to be up & doown last year, especially in the playoffs. But I most admit a backcourt of J-Will & Wade seems to have the potential to have somewhat of a high turnover rate. But players do a little to much dribbling, which could lead to a fare share of turnovers. A backcourt like that probably will struggle when teams go to the zone to clog the lane on Shaq.

People need to realise the logo (Jerry West) would not make such a stupid trade when he already has two players better than Eddie Jones at his position. Bonzi Wells and Mike Miller. J-Will is Memphis's floor leader and James Posey is not a thrown in, the guy is a defensive stud and one of the best role players in the NBA. There's no reason for West to make a trade unless he can get a top 5 center in return.

    This deal is laughable.

This is nonsense. I agree that Memphis would never go for this. Battier, Miller, Wells AND Jones at SG/SF, with a pair of backups (watson & damon) as point guards? And memphis losing 2 of their 3 best players? I thought the new york press generated the most ridiculous trade rumors, but this is a new level of laughs! [IMG]

I dunno if this is a trade rumor or riley presented this offer to memphis but...wouldn't you be laughing at an offer to send Lamar Odom, Caron Butler, Eddie Grant and a future first round draft pick to L.A. for Shaquille O'Neal? And yet it happened [IMG]

LOL nice one heatfan83... that was smooth...

I know realy, with all the ridiculous trades lately anything could happen. Maybe trading got to Jerry West's head and he wants to make a trade? Who knows, but I think it has a chance of going down.

I would love to see this deal go down as a Heat fan. They get rid of Eddie Jones and his Gigantic contract, but even more importantly, they get to move Dwayne Wade to the SG and get one of the few true Points in the NBA, although Jason Williams wasn't one before. In addition, they also get one of the most improved players in the L from the last year, who's a good 3rd offensive option and very good defensivlely.

However, I cannot see this happening from a Grizzlies personnel point of view. Jones won't be that much of an upgrade their, because they have Mike Miller, Bonzi Wells, Shane Battier, Brian Cardinal and Dahntay Jones there already who can play the 2 and 3 posistions. They also will have a vacant spot at the PG spot. Watson is not starter caliber IMO, especially on a team with great talent like this. So in all realism, this deal doesn't benefit the Grizzlies at all and West is no fool, so this won't go down.
