omg man lol his guards still had problems with turnovers but they had above average defense and at the end, they just tossed the ball to Yao every time down and Yao either got fouled or made it in or got an and1! WOOT

27 points and 13 boards for Yao! They're facing Luthiania in the quarterfinals. Are they any good? Have they beat China before?

Lithuania is very good. They were named by Amare as the top team that the United States had to worry about in the Olympics. They have the good shooters and are as aggressive as they come. I do not think China can beat them with just Yao they will need guys to step up big time to win. Good luck Yao I wish him and China nothing, but the best in that game.

Lithuania is the winner of the other group... so yeah they're very good.

I'm just happy we won't have to see Yao with a beard next season!

I don't think China has a chance against Lithuania... They have 3 point shooters at all 5 positions and they've got size to match up with Yao. Unless his teammates show up big time, I don't think it's going to be close.

It won't be. However, making the quarter-finals is already quite an accomplishment for China, considering the fact that this is only their second run to the Final 8 in eight tries, and also that they knocked out the defending World Champs in the process. China will build on this foundation, and with their young core, I see them dominating in international competition in around five years.

omg Fang Zhang, thank u so much! Guys, the link he posted earlier in the thread was China vs SCG's decisive game!

From watching the game, I can tell you guys these facts/myths:

    1. China's guards SUCK. They can NOT shoot. Not at least in this game. The only guard who seems to be connecting in this game is Li Nan.

    2. China's guards cannot defend nor dribble. They can't take care of the ball at all.

    3. Yao really is carrying this team by himself. Imagine a Lakers team with Shaq + Kobe + a bunch of nobodies but in this team, it's just Yao.

    4. Watching this game through Yao's perspective makes me understand the pain he's going through. He's getting hacked by 2, 3 people simultaneously and when he kicks the ball out to the open man, they don't know what to do or throw up bricks. Or even better, while he's getting up court, the guards fail to even bring the ball up to run a half-set offense and end up getting the ball stolen for a break-away dunk. It's no wonder he got pissed at his teammates. They really, really, suck.

Edit: I forgot to add, Yao was straight up playin like an american baller! He pounded his chest before some clutch free throws and even taunted the SCG's bench after a big block! I'm liking Yao's improvement so far this offseason.

Fang Zhang, any more good stuff??? Let me know [IMG]. My AIM is LiuDAiLO.

It even was the best performance that they ever had! Sorry for Yao... [IMG]

Yea, he's listed as 1st overall in the 2006 draft, but some people still don't know if he was born in 1984 or 1987 and I found out China will be playing Luthiana Thrusday, 9:45 am eastern time on Bravo.

I wonder, why doesn't someone just ASK him? Surely, he knows his own age. What's with all the secrets?

Time magazine did an interview on Yi Jian Lian a year ago and when they asked him about his age, he declined to comment while his dad just smiled blankly. Pretty shady sounding to me, but I mean, even if he wasn't born in 1987, he can't be more than 20 right now for sure. That's still pretty good.

Here's a nike advertisement featuring Yi. Pretty cool.

wow that video is sweet. I heard this guy can o a 360 and windmill, and he's what, 6'1? Anyways, i'm sure he's not 17, he looks more like he's 25, but he obviously isn't. Someone around JBB told me he is 19 years old now or 20, don't remember.

It just doesn't make any sense. What possible reason would he have for pretending to be younger than he is? Is China forcing him not to reveal his age?

Actually, if he is lying about his age, China would be behind it. This age-hiding stuff has been going on for years in China's gymnastic divisions. The point in not making him reveal his age is to make him eligible for the tournaments for younger people. With a bigger guy on their team, China would have a better chance of winning.

And authentiq, Yi is around 7 feet right now.
