I read an article on ESPN today and it said the Warriors have $14m in cap space available in 2005. Will that be enough to resign both of our players? It also mentioned how we had a few players that had options or something (Robinson, Davis). Maybe the $14m they mentioned does not include the expiring contracts of Robinson, and Davis. But lets say all we have is $14m. Do you think both of them will re sign for only $7m per season considering how much we sign Fisher and Foyle this year? I dont think so. Will one take $8m and $6m? Maybe. What do you guys think? Do we let one of them walk?

The way teams are wasting and spending money this summer I wouldn't be at all surprised to see J-rich get a 6 year, 60-65 million contract. It sounds alot but the guy has alot of talent and will keep improving. Teams like Atlanta will certainly consider offering him that amount. Portland are also in need of a SG, they will have the money next summer but they will need to re-sign Randolph.

With Richardson being a restricted FA It will be difficult for another team to take him away from GS but are the Warriors willing to spend huge money on him? thats the question.

I honestly think It's wishful thinking that J-rich would take 8 million per season.

If we were going to pay Damp $9-10m per season, there is no reason why we should not pay Jrich $10m per season. I would not mind that deal you mentioned. I dont think that is a max deal. What about Murph. I have a hard time thinking about signing him to such a large deal since I have seen very little of him with his injuries last year.

We CAN sign both Richardson and Murphy. However, the main problem is how we will sign Dunleavy, Speedy, Pietrus, Biedrins and whoever comes after. With current setting, we will not lose any contract after next year. As a matter of fact, next big contract we can shed is incoming Najera's contract, which will end 4 years from now. Sure, something can happen, but we saw years after years how hard it is to remove a contract. This is the reason I am being critical toward this year's transaction. I will love how Foyle, Fisher and Najera will play, and they will benefit this club a lot this season. However, are hustle and full effort really worth 19 mils per year?

w/ the new cba(collective barrganing agreement) next year, the owners want to get rid of luxery tax and limit a players contract to 4 years in length(prolly settle for 5)....

warriors can go over the cap to resign both murphy and jrich but what they can do next offseason is not sign them untill after signing FA...jrich and murphy's contract count 150% of what it was last year on our cap space to keep there bird rights so we can use 9 million in cap space and resign both of them..

I seriously doubt that owners will remove luxury tax, because that's the only counter measure for softcap to control player's salary. If luxury tax is gone, owners will try to insert hardcap instead, and since it won't happen, some sort of luxury tax will still be applied. If both luxury tax and hardcap are gone, it will be like Baseball. And, Warriors will certainly resign Richardson and Murphy after 05 season, if they intend to keep them, because if Warriors do not sign them after next season, they will be unrestricted FAs after 06 season. Warriors can both sign FAs and resign Richardson and Murphy in 05 season. Only thing it matter is how much Cohan will pay...

It seems that Richardson is the better candidate to resign because of his scoring and lack of dominant post play from T-Murphy. We already have two power fowards with contracts behind Murphy (Biedrins and Najera) so I see Mullin working the books to keep one and still have a max contract to offer Yao. My guess is that Mullin is expecting a winning team this year (over .500 record) or would not be throwing valuable cap money at underwhelming role players like Foyle, Fisher and Najera. Yes, the Warriors are not a great franchise, but there are a couple of free agents who would take the money (higher contract) to join the core of Foyle, Biedrins, Dunleavy, Pietrus and Fisher. The modern reality of NBA is that players like Boozer, Nash, Okur (Kidd) choose teams based on salary not the ability the join a contender.

The Warriors can sign Jason Richardson and Murphy to any contracts they want to because they have their Bird rights, since they've been on the team for 3+ years. I think Richardson will get Jefferson money, but not sure about Murphy, they'll have to see how he performs this year.

All depends on what Murphy produces next season, he will have to put up even better stats than what he did two years ago to get a big contract. He pretty much knows he will be playing for a contract this year, I doubt he will have too many high offers after the season he just had. Mainly due to injures of course...

He may only end up getting a MLE type deal next summer. I doubt he will be hard to keep.

    I disagree..
If Boozer can get a contract like he did then I dont see why Murphy cant..
He has the skills to put up just as good of numbers..health will be the main factor in this up coming season for him and aslong as he stays healthy Im looking for him to put up good numbers..
His shooting seemed sharp when he did play last season and I expect to see more of that in the future

Boozer put up 16 and 11, he is also only 21 years old. That contract he got was not only on production but potenial.

There's a reason why I said Murphy will need to put up even better numbers than he did two years ago, which was a double double..around 12 and 10? or something close to that. His scoring production needs to rise, Golden State seems to be the place for playing for contracts so maybe he will infact increase his play.

I think it's almost impossible to guage Murphy's value right now. I'm a huge believer in him, so I think he's going to have a big year, but with the current roster (Robinson, Najera, and Biedrins all at pf) it's tough to predict how many minutes Murphy's going to get.

If he gets 35 minutes a game and stays healthy throughout the year, I could see him putting up Boozer-type numbers, and his market value will be very high. But, if he only gets 25-30 minutes a game and only plays about 60-65 games a year, the Warriors could probably sign him for not much more than the MLE.

As for Richardson, I still think Maggette and Quentin Richardson are the two standards for what type of contract Jason will sign. Don't compare him to Okur, Damp, or Foyle because centers get paid a premium. Instead, pay attention to what the other sgs/sfs get.

Map1986 also raises a good point about the new CBA. The length of the contracts will almost certainly go from 6/7 years to 4/5. While this probably won't directly affect what contracts Murphy and Richardson get, it should influence the type of contracts Dunleavy and Pietrus get, so Mullin shouldn't be as worried about signing Murphy or Richardson to a big deal.

And speaking of the CBA, I believe the owners will either get rid of the luxury tax, or dramatically raise the % of gross revenue taken up by player income that would trigger the luxury tax in order to get a 20 year age limit imposed on players entering the league.

I think Murph is going to add more dimensions to his offensive game. Plus I think he will play more in the post since we need it and he's been training to do it. He attended Pete Newell's big man camp during the college offseason and has been there to improve his rebounding and fighting for position. I bet the fundamentals are still there in terms of scoring around the basket. He'll just need to get used to facing away from the basket in the post and making sure he protects the ball. As a center, he can keep the big man away from the basket by hitting the 23 footer and also throw the ball down low to Biedrens at small forward or dunleavy on a point guard. So there's a variety of ways for Murphy to be used within the lineup. Biedrens btw can play small forward. Not a greatballhandler, but has great fundamentals in terms of moving without the ball. You get a good passer like Murphy or Cliff Robinson to hit him with the ball, he's finishing it or getting fouled.
