The following quotation is taken from Tuseday mornings Seattle Post-Intelligencer:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Chris Webber was the premier free agent in 2001. The Maloof brothers had a billboard offering to mow his lawn if he would re-sign. New York celebrities pleaded with Webber on scoreboard messages to consider the Knicks.

Three years later, Webber is considering his second knee surgery in 12 months. With four years and $80 million remaining on his contract, one general manager said the Webber deal is "the worst in the league."</div>

This is an email sent by a Kings fan to Danny O'Neill, the author of the piece:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dear Mr. O'Neal,

I read your article 8/24 regarding the Seattle Supersonics and Ray Allen. However, I am a basketball fan here in Sacramento, CA. In your article you said, "Chris Webber was the premier free agent in 2001. The Maloof brothers had a billboard offering to mow his lawn if he would re-sign. New York celebrities pleaded with Webber on scoreboard messages to consider the Knicks.

Three years later, Webber is considering his second knee surgery in 12 months. With four years and $80 million remaining on his contract, one general manager said the Webber deal is "the worst in the league." "

I was hoping you could clear something up for me. Is Chris Webber considering another surgery on the knee he injured in the Dallas Playoff series 2 seasons ago? Is he just getting his knee scoped? Also, what is your source? Did Chris Webber tell you he was getting his knee operated on? Is this just speculation?

You have worried a lot of people here in Sacramento with this article. The Sacramento Bee has said nothing at all like this- if anything they say that Webb has reported his leg is getting stronger.

    Please Let Me know!!!</div>

    And this was his response:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Hi Matthew:

One of my league sources had said -- in passing -- that Webber was looking at the possibility of another surgery. It was nothing definitive. I have not spoken to Webber.

I've certainly gotten a number of e-mails about it from folks in Sacramento. It should be made clear that there was nothing definitive that was reported in our newspaper.

    Hope all is well.

    Take care,
    Danny O'Neil
    Seattle Post-Intelligencer Sports</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Now I know that this isn't definitive proof that Webber might undergo a second, late-Summer round of knee surgery, but it sure sounds ominous to me. With Peja angrily demanding a trade, Webber asserting the need to be "more selfish" and impose his leadership on his underachieving teammates, Bobby Jackson saying that he will demand that Sacramento not use the team option on his contract next Summer, and now with a "league source" telling a very credible journalist that Webber is considering going under the knife again, things are just not looking good in Sactown right now...-- EvilMav2 [Dallas-Mavs.com]</div>

Anyone else hear something similar to this?

Here's a link to Kingsfans.com, and a thread detailing the whole business Strangely enough, the initial link to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer contained on that thread doesn't appear to be working now =/

after reading the full article and putting it into perspective its complete garbage.

there is no reason to believe any of it at this point especially since the article has already been pulled from their website.

I've been a Kings fan for a long time... but things arent lookin good for them.

It was either last year or this. Now Peja wanna leave, we lost Vlade, and Webber and his injury continues to bother him... very bleak.

If C-webb has another surgery I believe his career is all, but over in my opinion. He has missed over three full seasons when you combine his missed games in his career in sacramento. If he has another surgery he will come back in febury or march like he did last year and ruin the team chemistry.

I believe the team needs to look to trade him if he is looking to under go surgery. They can do what the Pistons did with hill trade him before he becomes a untradable bust. Mabye a C-webb to New York for Houston deal.

^ I agree with that. I believe if he has to under go another surgery on his knee, his career is all but over. He doesn't have an inside game, so his legs were/are critical to his sucess. He's a mid range jumper guy that uses his legs and first step to attack the basket. He's not as explosive as before, which is already a big blow to his game, but undergoing another surgery on his knee will limit him to taking his mid range jump shots and going around picks. That's not worth the money he's getting paid. Also that stat about C-Webb missing 3 full season as a King is false. He's missed 111 games, which is around 1 season and a third.

Also if the Houston-Webb trade was a possibility were to go down, the Kings would almost certainly ask for Mike Sweetney in the deal, and if that were to go down, then it would be a definite steal for the Kings, because they need a offensive 2 guard, even though Houston is injury prone, and they get a young rising PF in return. However I don't see this happening at all, because I see Isiah being concerned with C-Webb's health.

    I found the article http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/basketball/1...=1&searchdiff=4

and if you read, you will find that Mr. O'neal has changed the content of what he has said. the article now reads as follows:
    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">

Three years later, Webber is coming off a season of knee problems. With four years and $80 million remaining on his contract, one general manager said the Webber deal is "the worst in the league."</div>

as I thought, there was little to no merrit to his statement regarding webber & additional surgury. Now you can unpucker and relax.
