As most of you know, we drafted these four guys 1) Josh Childress, 2) Josh Smith, 3) Donta Smith and 4) Royal Ivey. They all seem very promising, and talented but will they succeed on a struggling hawks team? 1) Josh Childress from Stanford was our first choice we got him at No.6 pick before all of our other rookies, he was the most NBA ready player available. Height: 6'8" Weight: 210 lbs Position: SG/SF Age: 21 2) Josh Smith from Oak Hill Academy was our second pick and we got him at the No.17 pick overall, an amazing athlete possibly the best one in the draft. Height: 6'9" Weight: 210 lbs Position: SG/SF/PF Age: 19 3) Donta Smith from Southern Illinois College was our first pick in the second round of the draft and we chose him at No.34 overall. Versatile player and was a great player at SIC. Height: 6'7" Weight: 215 lbs Position: PG/SG/SF Age: 21 4) Royal Ivey from Texas, he played with TJ Ford of the Milwaukee Bucks and was our last pick of this years draft and we got him at No.37 overall. Height: 6'3" Weight: 200 lbs Position: PG Age: 23 Well, theres my short summary of the draft picks we got in this years draft, who do you think will be the most successfull, and valuable player to our team next year and in the years to come? My opinion is either Josh Smith, or Donta Smith are going to be the most successfull in the long run because there young, versatile swing men who can play 3 positions so they're going to find a way to log minutes no matter what team they play for. For the instant impact I'm going to go with Royal Ivey, and Josh Childress because they both have college experince and come from good programs. Royal Ivey is a hard nose defender and good PG so he's going to be a good asset to our team behin Delk and possibly Donta Smith, and Boris Diaw-Riffiod. Josh Childress to me seems like he's going to be a role player because I dont know much about him, I only heard of him since we drafted him.
To me, Josh Childress is the most promising to the team. If he could only gain 10-15 pounds he could be a great sg/sf and all star in the making. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Josh Childress to me seems like he's going to be a role player because I dont know much about him, I only heard of him since we drafted him</div> Please, don't say he seems like he is going to be a role player when <u>you don't know him</u>. Josh Childress is a versatile and smart player from what i've seen so far. He has a great range in his jumper and can bring the ball up without mistakes. The kid has major talent and plays with finesse, which can also be a weakness within his game. He can cause havoc on off-ball screens and with his defense. He is a perfect cadidate to feed a big man because of the threat of the return pass and jump shot. He can also cause a lot of trouble and is a weapon in a pressing defense. Since he is 6 '8.5' he can stretch out his position from SG to PF and situationally PG (for a big lineup) this is how it stands: 1.Josh Childress 2.Josh Smith 3.Royal Ivey 4.Donta Smith .. In the long run I think Josh Childress would be the most successful
The player with the most upside is Josh Smith. However, I think Childress will end up better, too many question marks about Josh's game, mainly shooting, may hold him back. If Josh Smith can work on his jumper, he'll be the best out of all 4. As for immediate impact, Josh Childress will effect the team the most. Ivey is good, but he'll be playing at point behind Diaw and Delk.
Ivey is more of a swingman. He was never a point guard at Texas, and his key specialty is defense. With the surgence of good defenders like Ira Newble and Trenton Hassell, I think the Hawks will be hard-pressed to let him play, especially since they have mostly rookies in the backcourt, so I think that Ivey's college experience will help him earn a spot in the rotation.
I think that Josh Smith could become a great tatlent but me personally i believe that Josh Childress is the future he is one of my favorite players so im kinda biased i belief he is going to be better then all those players you mentioned but hey give it 2 yrs. and Josh Smith could become the best player on the Hawks and shut my mouth
I think all of the Hawks rookies can be good. All four of them should get the opportunity to get some playing time. Josh Childress-He will probally get big minutes for the Hawks and he should produce some good stats he is a versatile player and is NBA ready, what he really needs to do is bulk up tough,he is tall and scrawny so he might get thrown around a bit if he doesnt, players like MJ and Kobe decided to do this after a few years in the leauge. Josh Smith-He has a tremendous upside and has potential to be a great player some day,I dont know how much he will produce this season, but he should also get some solid minutes. Royal Ivey-A player that is also NBA ready,I think he has the defensive skills that can be compared to those of Ron Artest and Bruce Bowen,if your a solid defnesive player your offensive game will usally come to you, this guy can be valuable off the bench and should play decent minutes.(But the sad way I remeber him is that dunk Hakim Warrick put on him a year or two ago )
josh childress played well this year at standford and should get a lot of time playing this year so should josh smith even though hes coming out from hs. The hawks suck so play the rookies
I expect Josh Childress to have a good rookie season and a great career. He has college experience, which will help him make an immediate impact. Being on the Hawks will help his numbers as well, as he will be turned to more than he would be on most other teams. If he can use his athleticism to his advatange, he could be one great Swingman for years to come. With his height, he could cause big matchup problems if he plays SG. He could use his speed to get by taller SF's also.Josh Smith has huge potential, and has shown a lot of promise. However, the HS level is no where near the NBA and he may not be able to rely on his athleticism as much as he'd like to. It's hard to judge how good he will be in his rookie season coming out of HS, but he could a great player one day with all the potential he has. Roval Ivey should be a role player, off the bench for most of his career. Many teams in the League would want his defensive abilities for seasons to come. I think Childress will have the best career, but Josh Smith could turn out to be something really special.
I'm really looking forward to watching Childress play, I watched a couple college games of his & he looked really good.
i talked to josh last night and he said that he is looking forward to the upcoming season. he said he feels as though he has something to prove to all the teams that passed him up.
I just watched some highlights from their last game and Josh Smith looked really solid. Looks promising for the Hawks.
I think childress will be the best of the four . Josh smith has the potential to be great but he doesnt have the heart to be as good as he should be, think ricky davis but less creative.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He can also cause a lot of trouble and is a weapon in a pressing defense. Since he is 6 '8.5' he can stretch out his position from SG to PF and situationally PG (for a big lineup)</div> Childress playing PF should never happen, even in a small lineup, unless the other team has someone really tiny there too. I think he can be good, but his quickness and speed could hurt him defensively against quick 2 guards. He was pretty slow in draft camp, and one of the slowest G/F's there. Luol Deng who people had been calling "slow" had better times than him, and it's not like Childress was injured or something. Josh Smith has potential, but that's all it is right now, athleticism, range,a nd a streaky shot, if he can mold all his skills, he can be a pretty good player too. I see Josh Childress as a right below borderline All-Star guy, kinda like a Jalen Rose or Larry Hughes, and I can't say about the other guys. Also about Josh Smith almost the best athlete in the draft, he had the highest vertical [out of the "important" guys] at 39.5 inches, but his quickness was only decent, but yea he's very athletic, but overall it'd probably be Snyder.
It seems like Josh Smith is doing the best so far for the hawks. He might move into the starting lineup because the injury to Chris Crawford who is out for the year.
You guys call Childress NBA-ready? sheeeesh I don't care if he went to college, the kid is too scrawny to play minutes in the NBA (although with the way the Hawks are I guess it can't really do much harm..). He has a decent enough jumper, except his release is so awkward/low that a decent defender would probably shut him down completely.. He's too soft to handle post up situations, and from what I've seen he can't finish around the basket too well either. Right now it's obvious he has a good bball IQ (he isn't clueless out there), but that alone does not make him worthy of playing time.. If he bulks up and fixes his jumpshot he might be able to do some damage.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The only bright spots on that team are Al H and toine.</div> Man, great post, never would've thought someone could be that smart and have that much of an opinion. No seriously why do you even bother posting if your just going to put that crap up??
