I'm not hating on Kobe or anything, in fact hes a great player and I even have his jersey. I'm just saying Kobe cost them the series NOT SHAQ. Shaq is the las person on the Lakers roster who you should put the blame on. Kobes horrible shot selection is the mian reson and another reason is the lack of help from the role-players
    </div>

I dont want to turn this into a thread about the Finals but I feel I have to respond. If you recall, the rest of the Lakers sucked throughout the Finals. Each and everyone of them except for Shaq and Kobe. So, in my eyes, it was Shaq/Kobe vs. The entire Pistons team because Devean wasn't showing up, Malone was banged up, Gary Payton just was horrible in the entire playoffs and the series, and then you had a bunch of rookies or under-average players playing. That's not a good excuse to use, yes thats true, because Detriot's defense was also playing a huge role. But if I had to blame it on one person, that would be Gary Payton. He is the point guard, he's supposed to be dictating the offense, so why didn't he look for Shaq more often? Gary was the one defending Rip/Chauncy as well and they burned him.
The Lakers were not meant to win it this year, in the previous years their role players were MUCH better then this year. And Malone and Payton were ineffective. Detriot deserved to win it.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting The Franchise 3:</div><div class="quote_post">Probably the best shape I have seen him in since his rookie season. He needs to get down to 285 and then I would say he just extended his bball career at least 3 more seasons.</div>

He has never weighed less then 300 lbs since his rookie year. If he could get to his rookie year weight of 301, that would be good enough. Cause he looked about 285 then. 16 additional pounds because of his big azz feet. He can't help that. [IMG]

I said Kobe was to blame because some guy said Shaq was to blame(when he carried that team) and Kobes the only one who did anything. That was bull. Gary Payton is to blame too. I was saying before you put the blame on Shaq just look how Kobe did. THe role-players were mainly the reason they lost though. Payton was guarding Chauncy who burned the Lakers the whole series. Kobe was guarding Rip and held him under control, but at the end of the series Kobe couldn't hold him any longer. Payton didn't hand it to Shaq more often because KObe was always the one brinign it up if you saw correctly Kobe brings it up bricks a 3, Detroits ball.

I agree DeTRoit did deserve this title, but I much would've hadc the Lakers win. I was rooting for them the whole play offs. I think Shaq though did deserve the Finals MVP even though his team lost. He was the only one woh actually put up a god damn good fight. I remember going on NBA.com to vote for the FINals MVP and the choices were:
    Chauncy Billups
    Rip Hamilton
    Tayshaun Prince
    Ben Wallace
    Sheed Wallace
    Shaq
Shaq I expect to bring the Pistons to a 7 game series this play offs because Kobe isn't there to hog the ball and brick it. Also don't blame it on Malone. Hes 41 years old and he respained that early ankle he sprained earlier that year.

Shouldn't this thread be moved or closed? It's turned into an NBA Finals Shaq debate.

Since all these post were put together. I amazed by how much of a Shaq and Kobe dispute went on. Anyways that's good that Shaq has trimmed down. Because all the jumping he does and putting all that pressure on his legs will deteriorate as he got older. He only should've been as big as he was his last a couple years with the Lakers after he retired. He was still dominate, but just for health issues it is best that he shedded those pounds.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">There'll be a lot less of Shaq to haul around on his 7-foot-1 frame this season. He weighs 331 pounds, down from the 355 he weighed when he met with Heat president Pat Riley less than two months ago, which probably is close to what he carried the last few seasons.

He's still a little short of his target of 325, but if 331 pounds can look svelte, it does on Shaq.

"I've always been the type of player to do what I'm told to do," he said of the weight loss. "The Lakers wanted me to lift (and build muscle mass). I'll be 325 or below when I report to camp." </div>

    <div align="center">Link</div>

He weighs 331 and his goal is 325, Pat Riley was on PTI a couple days ago and he was saying his personal goal for Shaq is in the teens, that'll be good but Shaq should put about 5lbs+ of muscle.

Does anyone know what Shaq's weight has been year by year? I'd like to see how is weight correlates with the injuries he's had and his performance on the court.

This is the thing that grates on Lakers fan's nerves. 4 years of coming into the season overweight and slowly getting bigger (at one point nearly reaching 400 pounds) but still demanding the big bucks. Then, he gets traded and automatically loses the weight? Stuff like this that gets on our nerves...

Anyway, yes Shaq does look much slimmer. We'll see how long he maintain his weight once he gets that fat extension (get it? Fat!...Nevermind...).

Shaq says the Lakers wanted him to get bigger. Somehow, I doubt that.

Why are all the Lakers fans hating on him honestly.. he comes to L.A brings them 3 rings in arow and then they stop winning... and then they hate him... I'm sure if he was 400 lbs and they won 6 rings in arow they wouldn't be complaining...

Laker fans are always used to winning honestly.. it's sad.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting realdealbneal:</div><div class="quote_post">I'm not here to diss on the Heat or anything, so don't worry. [IMG] About Shaq...he is skinnier. Now, is it because he's working on it, or is it because he's aging? Hmmm...lol!

Anyways...the problem with this is that I really don't understand how he slimmed down so quickly, but had problems doing this in Los Angeles. The way I see it, he was gaining all of this weight because he wanted out of Los Angeles and felt uncomfortable there. It's just ironic, and I know all of the Heat fans will say that it's because he wants a ring...but what does that matter? He wanted one in Los Angeles...Ron Artest wants one, Steve Nash wants one, Jason Kapono wants one...doesn't matter where they are at. Shaq was at 340 lbs I believe, when he left the Laker organization. I guarantee he lost alot of it just by the looks in his neck and arms...so apparently he's not being lazy anymore only because (IMO) he wants that contract extension the Heat are already talking about.

In other words, Shaq is who cost us the title in the playoffs...he didn't block anyone's shot driving the lane, and he wasn't ripping down rims like he should've been...and Ben Wallace isn't THAT good of a defender to stop Shaq like he did in the playoffs. I think it was all laziness, and being out of shape...because notice how guys are saying he slimmed down, so apparently he was pretty damn big when he was in LA and it showed.</div>

    WHAT????

Do you even remember how bad Kobe played??? He was bad...bad...bad. Umm if i remember correctly Shaq and some pretty good games in the finals. KOBE WAS BAD.

Every single player on the Laker roster did bad. I'll even take a step further and say that if we had a healthy Malone and any other PG than Payton (because he was picked apart in the Finals), then we would've won.

Kobe did bad offensively because he had to jack up shots, because Malone and George were killing his offense by not setting screens. This is why Kobe was doubled and tripled, and the Detroit Pistons were smart in doing this. See what happens though, when a team focuses all of their attention to Kobe? The team wins. If they did that to Shaq, Kobe would put in 40 and the Lakers would win. Team theory: stop Kobe, the Lakers lose. Stop Shaq, it doesn't matter.

Shaq did great offensively...but his defense was BAD...BAD...BAD. Kobe was great defensively, but his offense wasn't good. However, since this thread is about Shaq, that's why I singled him out.

I thought Shaq was pretty corny by yelling "Can you dig it". What a dork!
