it's been really quiet here, and i'm not sure if there's already a thread like this. How do you all feel about the realignment that moved the raptors from the central to the atlantic division? are we going to benefit from this?
I personally believe we will benefit from the alignment. here it is: Atlantic Division: Boston Celtics New Jersey Nets New York Knicks Philadelphia 76ers Toronto Raptors The new jersey nets look like they are going nowhere, Philly's fate is still undecided, and I believe we can take New York and Boston. The raps actually IMO have a chance at taking the division, technically every team does, since this is one of the weakest divisions in the league.
Well in the short run the Raptors benefit from being in the Atlantic division of course. They have a much better chance at having home court advantage and winning the division. Though in the long run it does not help them. Although they avoid having to beat out Indiana and Detroit in a head-to-head-to-head conference match up chances are they will meet up at latest in the second round of the playoffs this year so they will have to face them sometime be it sooner or later. This also offers the team more of a how should I say it edge because like I said before with them moving to the Atlantic they have a much better shot at the conference crown. Although I respect both the Knicks and 76ers organization they are really nothing compared to what the Raptors team would have to face in there old division. They now do not have to beat a team that has argueable the best big man in the east outside of Shaq to win the division, nor do they have to beat the world champs, but rather the other favorites are all teams that didn't make the playoffs last year or lost early in a sweep. I personally feel as long as Vince is healthy and on the team there chances of a division crown look brighter than ever. Like Vince showed in the North Carolina charity game he is healthy and still has huge hops and a player like that who can also shoot the ball is priceless. Cant wait to see him lose the injury prone label this season.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting authentiq:</div><div class="quote_post">unfortunately, it won't next year. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> unfortunately, it won't next year. The label might actually be permenant </div> Every player in the NBA gets an injury every season, not everyone plays 82 games all the time. Vince only missed 9 games this year yet the "injury prone" label is still painted on him by the media. You know why? It is because that's basically what America thinks of him. Think about it, the last time the Americans actually saw Vince's Raptors play in the playoffs was in 2002 when he was out and we had NBC painting and ranting about how they made the playoffs without Vince being there. Ever since then, this "injury label" has been stuck with Vince. Also, getting injured two seasons in a row didn't help Vince's case. When Vince and the Raptors make the playoffs this year, and if he manages to do well and perform well, that label will come off. Most of the people that critize Carter and say he's going nowhere fail to realize that he can still rack up a lot of points, he doesn't drive as often but he can still score. He's improved as a passer and a rebounder. Canadians already know how he plays, it's the american media that has given him that label. Once the playoffs come around, it will stop.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chungster:</div><div class="quote_post">Doesn't make a difference nor does it matter.</div> Care to support you're statement? By being in the re-aligned Atlantic division, it gives us a chance to become the 3rd seed in the East, with no clear cut favorite. If we were in the Central, would that make a difference? Ya damn right it would...We would be competeting against Indy and Detroit most notably for top spot in the division, which will never happen. Even if we were in the Southeast, we wouldn't have a legit shot at 3rd spot, because the Heat have that division owned. Being in the balanced Atlantic division, benefits the Raptors. I rather play in the First round of the playoffs with home court advantage than without it.

I never said that, i said the label will never wear off of Vince as "injury prone", look at last year for example. he only got injured for 9 games and people act like he got injured for more than 40 games. So before you make another "miss cleo" smart ass comment, make sure you know and are sure what the poster is/was talking about. oh and banks, babe ruthmust be spinning in his grave right now if he saw that score.lol

Its not all said and done until he retires, if he comes back this season, and the seasons after and play injury free, then i'm sure he won't be the injury prone player people think he is. If Jordan can be called Chuck, and ballhog in his early seasons then comeback and win ships, and be named the greatest, i'm sure carter can change his image. Its never too late

We're not going to go in the history book or get a trophy for getting a certain seed. As long as we're atleast the 8th seed, it's all good. The divisions don't help the Raptors. THE RAPTORS have to HELP THEMSELVES, period.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Who cares about which seed we'll get. We're not going to go in the history book or get a trophy for getting a certain seed. </div> Top 4 seeds get home court advantage. In basketball, that amounts to a lot.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting spawn:</div><div class="quote_post">Top 4 seeds get home court advantage. In basketball, that amounts to a lot.</div> My point exactly
it's better to get home advantages on the playoffs, it benefits the players and the the mlse since they play more home games. and the more gm rob babcock improves the team, then the raptors would really benefit us.

I have met carter, in fact he is really good friends with my cousin so i met him a few times down at florida and in toronto. I never said that he will never play great nor did i say he will not take his team to the playoffs. You are so naive. I only said the "label" will probably be permanent, not his injury-prone game.
Re aligned Well here is how nomad looks at it. our toughest competition will be :drumroll please: new york and philly. as long as AI and glen robinson stay healthy they will be a threat. New York is basically rebuilding. New Jersey just srewed themselves over. And if Boston keeps GP (very unlikely) they would be a threat from the outside. if u ask me the best TO can do is 4th in the east. which looks very good. but we just have to wait and c what happens. too many strong teams in the other division. if everyone on our roster stays healthy we are a good contender in the playoffs.
