Espn.com is reporting that the Portland Trailblazers and forward Darius Miles have agreed to a 6 year $48 million deal.

O man I was hoping on of my teams would offer Miles something. Six years 48 million that is over paying for him a bit though and you dont know how he will perform after he has gotten his pay day he struggled his whole nba career to get points or live up to the hype until the second half of last year lets hope he keeps it up.

I'm a little worried for the Blazers in all honesty. Miles has been a career underachiever and now that he has been overpaid(IMO) then he might have even less of a drive to get better.

He is getting payed way too much for what he deserves. He is a 5 year 26 million guy, not what he is getting payed. He has always been overpayed and probably will always be.

    Wow.. talk about overpaying.

The ridicolous NBA salaries are going to lead to the leagues downfall..

Wow, Portland overpaid significantly on this one. Miles hasn't lived up to his potential since he got drafted and hes rewarded with this type of deal?

I think it was a good signing, but they gave him too many years and too much money. He has some good years left in him so the Blazers giving them this contract may eventually pay off to be a good signing.

6 years 48 Million is what he should be getting in this market. He's only 22, and is still improving. The guy broke through last year in the second half. He had absolutely no pressure on him, and he performed like everyone expected him too. The contract should only make him more determined, because he's a young kid that has matured since his time in the NBA. Cheeks should teach him good. He should break through next season if Abdur-Rahim doesn't get in his way.

After a while you just have to stop waiting for the 'potential.' He's a good role player, but he'll never be the player he was hyped up to be. And now that he's got his cash, it's unlikely he'll try to become something special.

Thats would be the likely thing to happen, but maybe he will be different,Miles has never got a contract this big so maybe know it will inspire him to become a more consistant, better player.

the guy has been paid tons of money before and still didnt produce up to potentiel. maybe this is why portland cant get to the playoffs? he cant play as well as the media and hype says he can. the cavs learned that the hard way and now so will portland.

8 million a year? Thats big money to be dishing out freely by a team obviously looking to be saving up cap room with all of their expiring contracts after YEARS of being in 'cap hell' as I like to say...

Especially to a guy thats had just such an inconsistent jumper like Darius Miles. Granted the guy is so athletic, you need fundamentals. Potential won't always be there to protect a young players reputation.

If he was 26 like a guy that came into the league the same year as he did after all 4 years of college, then I'd never give him that much money. He's only 22. Thats the age of some NBA rookies, you know... Even though he is still really young, I don't know if Portland knows what they got themselves into. 8 million guaranteed dollars a year... I guess the CAPkins diet wasn't all it was worked up to be. [IMG]

As a general rule of thumb, its best not to invest too highly in a player with corn-rows. Ben Wallace is an exception, except half the time he has a 'fro, so that doesn't really count. [IMG]

^ This doesn't necissarily mean he's overrated, it just means hes overpaid. Most are saying he's overpaid, so people dont think of him as high as someone who deserves this type of money.

He deserved much less than that, IMO. However, If he did fill his potential, he could be worth the money, maybe even more. I hope he proves everyone wrong and becomes a really good player, because i have high hopes for him and is one of my favorite players.
