The Mavs have had a pretty big off season so fair and very productive one also, but the thing is they havent been taked about much. <u>Key Additions</u> Eric Dampier-Adding him has probally been the biggets move of theiir off season, most tought Damp would be a Hawk or Knick but Dallas ended up stealing him in the end and now have a C who can play the best big men in the West. Jason Terry-Gives them another PG for the loss of Nash and is probably the better player out of the two, even tough they traded Walker they need a PG more then him and he didnt play well with the Mavs. Devin Harris-This team didnt really have a draft pick but they traded for Harris,I think the deal mabe ofr his pick is questionable, they treaded a solid 6th man for a rookie who could get limited minutes. Marquis Daniels-Not really an addition but a key siging,Daniels went un drafted but has proven he can play at NBA level,he should be starting for t he Mavs and could put up decent numbers. Overall the Mavs have gotten better even tough they dont have Nash,Jamison or Toine anymore it was time for change because the team wast really going anywhere anyway. Their starting lineup look like this: C-Eric Dampier PF-Dirk SF-Michael Finley SG-Marquis Daniels PG-Jason Terry This team may need time to gel ,but I think they could eventually make it to the playoffs because they have a solid defensive team.
Basically, Dallas Trades: Antoine Walker Antawn Jamison Eduardo Najera Danny Fortson 1st round pick (2006? i think) Dallas recieves: Erick Dampier Jason Terry Jerry Stackhouse Alan Henderson Pavel Podlkolzine Devin Harris Calvin Booth Evan Eschmeyer Dan Dickau Pretty one sided if you ask me, and nobody shows us any love cuz they think we cant play D. They dont even say were underdogs they just say we should lose. Well that's all changing this season. Although Marquis was a great signing, our sleeper for this year is gonna be DJ, I bet he becomes one of the Mavs most reliable shot blockers. And we cant say enough about how Avery will help us on and especially off the court. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">This team may need time to gel ,but I think they could eventually make it to the playoffs because they have a solid defensive team.</div> There making the playoff's it's just a matter of how far.
I say we make it to the Confrence Finals, Im glad we got some good pick ups in the off season but I really dont think Stackhouse will be coming off the bench, then again I said the same about Jamison.. Sixth Man of the Year to the Mavs again? But over all we had a pretty good offseason(and still going) so far I give the Mavs a C+
Mark Cuban said this the best best team he's had since joining Dallas. Let's compare to the team of two years ago. Then: Starter: Nash, Bell, Finley, Nowitzki, LaFrentz Bench: Van Excel, Bradley, Najera, Griffin, Williams Now: Starters: Terry, Daniels, Finley, Nowitzki, Dampier Bench: Stackhouse, Howard, Mbenga, Bradley, Harris, Booth Looks good to me, improvements in the starting lineup and depth. But these are the keys to whether this team will be better than the team two years ago; #1) Will Don Nelson coach this team to play defense, he can no longer say this team doesn't have the players, this team is loaded with guys that can play defense, MBenga will be a monster, Dampier, Terry, Daniels, Harris, Howard are all great defenders. The onus is on Nellie. #2) Will Jason Terry learn to run the team like Nash. No doubt Terry can shoot, and is a much better defender than Nash. I agree that this can be an upgrade if Terry learns to play his game. And throw in the fact that Daniels and Harris will be there to share the workload, I think we'll be better at point overall. #3) Nick Van Excel was the key to the team of two years ago. Who will take that role? Stackhouse? Or is Dirk ready to take the reigns? It is yet to be seen who will take on the leadership role on this team. #4) Daniels! This guy might be better than good. If this guys is good, we are a great team. But this guy could be great. He's has 25-8-6 potential. Yes, the goal for Marquis Daniels should be that his name is compared to TMac, VCarter, Kobe. It won't happen overnight, but he can develop into a star. This is the system for him to do it in.
