It has emerged that he has instructed his agent to look at deals, although I'm not sure if he is demanding a trade or just wanting to explore his options. His agent mentioned the Knicks, Heat and a couple of other teams as ideal situations, but not Seattle. However, I was thinking that, considering our attempts to land a point guard this offseason, whether anyone here would be keen on a deal for him involving Ray Allen, assuming these rumours are true? Would it be worthwhile recruiting a young point guard with Ridnour on the roster? Is he too similar a player to pair with Flip Murray? Discuss.
I'm not a big Baron Davis fan at all, but at the same time I wouldn't feel like we got robbed if he were traded straight up for Allen. Baron Davis I believe is only 25 and we've seen that he is able to rotate back and forth from the point and shooting guard when paired w/ a smaller guard like David Wesley. Baron Davis is immature, injury prone, and settles for too many three pointers. I really think that he could be the best point guard in the league if he was mentally tougher but since he isn't I'd take at least six point guards over him. I would be fine if he were paired w/ Flip, as long as Davis would realize that the ball would be in #22 hands late in the game. As far as Ridnour, we should never pass up the opportunity to get a quality point guard b/c he is in the waiting. Instead we should be using Ridnour as trade bait.
I feel like Davis only jacks up so many bad shots because he knows he has to score for his team to win. Mashburn is always injured, so he's never able to relax and let the game come to him.
I happen to be a Baron fan but he does come with his share of problems. He is always iinjured and does jack up to many shots but that may be because he has no one else on his team that can create there own shot. Itr would be interesting to see what he would do along side a player that can create there own shot (Flip Murray). These somewhat of a safe risk from a management perspective, he's star and is very talented but just hasn't been able to put it all together considering the situation surrounding him. Davis/Ridnour Murray/Daniels/Young Lewis/Vlad/Young Collison/Fortson/Evans/ Pot/James/(Smith/)Swift I'd wouldn't be entirely against a Allen for Davis trade but if it doesn't work out then we would be stuck with him for awhile. They only thing that is really actractive in this deal is moving Flip into the starting lineup. It wouldn't hurt for management to pick up the phone though and see what they could get.
Well obviously the chances of it happening are remote (there's only so much you can discuss in the offseason ), but my thinking is that there were pretty strong rumours that we were looking into a Ray Allen for Steve Francis trade, so if Davis is available, we might make a few enquiries. Personally I wouldn't be against such a trade, although it wouldn't really fill a need. Diddy is IMO the most naturally talented guard in the league (even above Marbury), but he is undisciplined and since Mashburn was injured, hasn't really had a legitimate second option, apart from Magloire who isn't strong at creating his own shot. He does shoot it too much, but at the same time I don't see Tim Floyd as a strong personality who would crack down on him, while on the flipside I reckon Nate would be good for him.
I would do this deal every day of the week, and thrice on Sundays. The BDiddy/Murray combination would be a lot like Marbury/Crawford or Franchise/Mobley, but it's still a combination requiring me to change undergarments. Seriously though, if we can get any inside presence, and focus on an inside-out style of play... there would be open looks for Davis, Murray, Lewis and Radman all day long. Something Davis would have that he doesn't in Nawlins is a team of options, and this team could kill you in a lot of ways. I think we'd see a Sonics team like we did after the All-Star break in 02-03 - and that's a good thing.

So much talk when looking at trades and free agent signings is how you can match up another team defensively on paper (see talk of pairing Flip with Ray), but at the same time, teams have to match up on you too.

Although I find it highly unlikely in my mind that Baron will leave the Hornets do to the fact that the team has shut down the option of trading him. I don't see a problem if they where to aquire him placing him in the back court with Flip, he proved last season that he is one of those players that can adjust to a roll. Like adjust to a smaller roll after averaging around 20 points when Ray made his return. In my mind (though some may disagree) Ray Allen leaving the Sonics in some trade would probably be best for the team. I think if they trade Ray it would be like what the Bucks did, Ray has become expendable do to the apparent development of Flip Murry. For him to continue to grow like Michael Redd did a trade of Ray Allen appears almost required in my mind.
