<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Veteran forward Popeye Jones, who played in just five games last season, was waived Friday by the Golden State Warriors. Jones, 34, was acquired by Golden State in a multi-player deal with the Dallas Mavericks in August 2003, but underwent left knee surgery and missed the first two months of the season. He ended up playing a total of 10 minutes in five games with the Warriors.</div> <div align="center">Link</div> This isn't very surprising seeing as that he wouldn't have much of a significant role on this team anyways.
In fact, most W's fans assumed he was already gone. Personally I was surprised it took this long to give him the walking papers, since this year isn't guaranteed.
Well, the Warriors don't lose anything here, but a healthy Popeye will still be a great rebounder and defender, but won't do much of anything else.
I saw Popeye Jones on an airplane once. Not that its relavant or anything. IMO the Warriors aren't losing a whole heck of a lot on this one.
Does he look as strange in person as he does in photographs? Popeye is a solid role player, but I think that teams can scrounge over the waiver wire for a younger guy who can also fit that role. Not to mention that the W's in particular are at the roster limit.
Did you guys ever see this one guy's sig that said "NBA's unf**kables" and it had Popeye Jones, Sam Cassell on the front. That was pretty wrong but hilarious. I'm guessing Popeye jones is just non-photogenic because on video interviews he looks normal.
