I was wondering what u all think the starting 5 will be as of right now. not including the fact that GP has interest o anyone else? here is a list of there roster: Reece Gaines G 6-6 205 1/07/81 Louisville '03 1 7 Adrian Griffin G-F 6-5 230 7/04/74 Seton Hall '96 5 5 Juwan Howard F 6-9 230 2/07/73 Michigan '95 10 21 Jim Jackson F-G 6-6 220 10/14/70 Ohio State '93 12 31 Mark Jackson (FA) G 6-3 195 4/01/65 St. John's (N.Y.) Here's mine PG-Ward/Sura <---I think they'll be splitting starting jobs at first to see who fits better SG-T-mac SF-Jim Jackson PF-Juwan Howard C-Y-Y-Yao Ming
The lineups will be pretty obvious. The only undecided spot is point guard, and I think that Ward will get the nod because of his previous history under Van Gundy. PG-Ward SG-McGrady SF-Jackson PF-Howard C-Yao
PG- Sura (Sura will probably split minutes with Ward and Lue will get some here and there) SG-McGrady SF-Jackson PF-Howard C-Ming
Pg- Ward, because of his past experience with VG, but is probably gonna switch from game to game between Sura and Lue to see who will fit the starting spot. SG-Mcgrady SF- Jackson PF- Howard C- Yao By the way, does anyone know how Reece Gaines will fit into all this?
PG-Ward SG-McGrady/Jackson SF-Jackson/McGrady PF-Howard C-Yao At times i would like to see TMac at SF. He would be faster and quicker than half of the SF in the league, not to mention outscore them
I think it should be PG - Sura SG - Mcgrady SF - Jackson PF - Howard C - Yao However, i think Van Gundy likes Ward a lot and might start him, but Sura should start. Sura will be a very important asset to the rockets if he played the way he did in Atlanta.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AznxBaller:</div><div class="quote_post">By the way, does anyone know how Reece Gaines will fit into all this?</div> I think he's going to be backup to T-Mac...seeing how Pike is going to be playing in Chicago soon.
PG - Ward, Lue backing up SG - McGrady, Sura backing up SF - Jackson, Padgett/Boki backing up PF - Howard, Taylor backing up C - Yao, Deke backing up Ward is the obvious choice for starting, Lue will remain somewhere in this roster. T-mac, is going to be starting, unless he's injured, Sura, I think, was just brought in for depth and experience. Jackson will be a lock at the 3, and I see Padge backing him up because they resigned him. Boki should get some playing time, more than last year at least. Howard is another obvious choice, just because he rebounds better than Mo, and scores more than 'Spoon. Yao -- Yao is Yao. And if the Deke deal goes down, he'll be backup. Gaines and Boki will be the odd men out, Boki will still get more minutes. 'Spoon will just fit in anywhere JVG needs him to.
Van Gundy has said that Gaines will be given a chance to prove himself, but I doubt that Gaines will do much during the season. Because of the depth on our roster, Gaines will most likely be what Mike Wilks was last season: a benchwarmer. However, this is a great chance for Gaines to continue his learning process, and eventually be good enough to be a key piece on our roster.
JJ will play the SG position... he played out of position last season because of Mobley. T-Mac is taller and will probably be better at defending the bigger SF's in the league. C - Yao PF - Howard SF - T-Mac SG - Jackson PG - Ward even if Ward doesn't start, I'm sure he'll be in during the 4th Q of close games.
why would you play Mcgrady at the small forward position? Mcgrady is a much better ball handler and passer than Jackson. Jackson i think is also a little bigger and stronger, so he probably is better at the SF position. Though on certain cases, they probably should switch on defensive assignments. Anyway, TMAC likes playing at the SG position, so he should play there to maximize his contributino.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ming637:</div><div class="quote_post">C-Yao Ming PF-Howard SF- Jackson SG- T-mac PG-Sura</div> I agree with this lineup, the only difference I could foresee would be the possibility of Sura and Ward splitting starts at the beginning of the season to see who will fit better. Also, I agree with whoever said that Ward will be in the 4th quarter of close games. The Rockets will benefit from his veteran leadership in those games and in the playoffs, barring we make them.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ming637:</div><div class="quote_post">C-Yao Ming PF-Howard SF- Jackson SG- T-mac PG-Sura</div> Agreed with you a 100% percent. I am pretty sure this line-up will do for us to get to the playoff's and if JJ has another good season!
Sura over ward and then lue yes..but are you guys sure Howard should start over MO-TAY? I don't really mind mo will be our secret weapon again. Juwan howard isn't better than mo taylor, that's for sure!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting McGrady#1:</div><div class="quote_post">imagine... C - Yao PF - Deke (if was a bit younger/fitter) SF - Howard SG - T-Mac PG - Sura</div> I'd love to see that lineup this season! Too bad Deke has aged so much though, otherwise it would be like the return of the twin towers in Houston.
