How well do you think T-MAC will bounce back and will he have a monstrous year?

Tracy McGrady could easily be back in the contention for MVP, since he will be playing on a winning team (we better be a winning team..). But, it's too early to predict, he hasnt played an NBA game in a Rockets uniform. Though I would have no problem with McGrady being the MVP, I'd rather see Yao have it. It would:

    A) Give him some much needed self confidence, and show him that he is ready to lead.
[IMG] Show everyone on the Rockets, and in the NBA, who's really the boss.
    C) Hopefully, push Yao to take us deep in the playoffs.

McGrady, of course, could easily have a better shot at the MVP award. With that being said, we dont need an MVP to win a championship. Team basket-ball is what we need to do, and I dont care if our entire roster is on the all-star team, as long as we're winning, it's all good.

Man, TMac has put up some monster years in the past. MonkeyMan had it right.
It's TMac's chance to lead. If he listens to Van Gundy, and Van Gundy pulls his
panties out of his crack and lets the team play on both ends of the floor, not just
defense, he'll get the MVP. TMac must realize that leading the league in scoring
isn't as important as doing it on both ends of the court and getting his teammates
involved. The problem is Shaq already has the MVP wrapped up. But runner up
will be awesome for TMac, both guys that have something to prove. I like having
that kind of player on my team (unless they suck).

I dont think he'll be MVP. Too many other talented players that have a better shot. IMO. Tim Duncan, Shaq, KG, and Kobe are my candidates for 2005. We are talking most valuable player. Yao IMO is more valuable than T-Mac on the Houston team. Thats being real. It wont be T-Mac at the end of the year.

Yea i agree with trenchteam i dont kno if he could be an M.V.P. with Kobe. Duncan, KG , and the other great players that have been leading their teams. Plus they might do him like they did Kobe (talking about w/o shaq he's nuthin) and say the only reason why he's winning is b/c of help from Yao!!!

I don't think McGrady will get MVP as long as he is with Houston, because he will always be number two to Yao Ming. However, that would still be good because nonetheless, because winning will always be more important than personal accolades to a great player like T-Mac.

Realistically, McGrady will definitely score more ppg than Yao next year. I don't forsee Yao have 25 ppg seasons. He has a lot of work to do before he can have that kind of year. McGrady can score 25 ppg with his eyes closed.

My prediction for the stats are:

    McGrady
    ppg - 25.2
    apg - 6.4
    rpg - 5.8
    fg% - .465

    Yao
    ppg - 18.9
    apg - 2.4
    rpg - 10.1
    fg% - .518

I think those are reasonable projections. Yao will show steady improvement in all facets of his game. McGrady will still score easily, but he won't attempt as many shots and his assists will go up. His field goal percentage will be much higher because he won't be forced to take as many tough shots.

McGrady will be the man next year. If the two stay together, a few years down the road Yao might start to take over. But next year, it will be Tracy's team. Also, I expect the Rockets to win around 50 games next year, so I do think McGrady will be an MVP candidate. I expect Shaq to win it, but McGrady's stock will rise after next year.

MVP? Probably not but he will be a very very good addition to the Rockets team. Finally a better supporting cast Yao-T-mac is the next Kobe-Shaq IMO and with Jim Jackson as a "3rd man" they will do awesome.

MVP? Not a chance. Not this year, at least... T-Mac hasn't matured enough yet.

TRACY mcgrady averaged 32 points per game while shooting 46 % from the field two years ago. ANd he had to take ALL his shots over tdouble and triple teams. Averaging 32 points in todays NBA where the avg. score is 93, is greater than MJ averaging 37 when the average score was 113.

    McGrady for MVP? No way.

Theres many reasons why, and I'm not just saying no because I've never been a fan of him.

He lacked the leadership in Orlando, what makes you guys think things are going to change? He took leadership classes at a local college here, and it's obvious he should go back to them. He may be a leader by example when he develops his clutch game, but by no means is he a vocal leader.

Big men dominate in todays game. The top 3 players in the league are (no order) Shaq, KG, and Duncan. The only guard I see in contention for MVP would be Kobe, and he would have to play some amazing basketball. The new trend is simple - A well rounded, and possibly defensive minded player who will get you farther. McGrady is by no means an outstanding defensive player, and he isn't the 'big man.'

He also needs to realize Yao Ming is #1. The duo of them will most likely have an equally balanced scoring load, however at the end of the day Yao will still be the first option. He's their big guy, and they are dependant on him for rebounding, hustle, etc. And that very fact alone of having McGrady as a #2 option will pretty much drop all chances of him becoming MVP.

The only way I see T-Mac getting MVP is:
    -Getting 30ppg, 8rpg, 8apg.
-T-Mac carries Rockets into the western conference finals.

Lets put it this way... If he does that and doesn't win MVP I'd be pretty surprised.

However, the stats are off and if there is "carrying" needed, expect Yao to share the load too.

The answer is no. Unless a miracle happens, McGrady won't win MVP.

I think T-Mac will be a top 3 contender for MVP. Every year he improves alot and i think he will be MVP atleast once in the upcoming 4-5 years.

I've heard that every team that van gundy has coached over the past ~6 yrs that no player has averaged more than 20 points. It must be because of his defensive minded approach..anyways..I'm a bit doubful that tmac and yao would be able to average more than 20 pts. If tmac averages 20ppg i think yao would average 15 ppg? Well, numbers doesnt matter, as long as we win!

I agree mostly with durvasa. TMac will score more than Yao this year. TMac will be in the running for MVP, along with Shaq, KG, TD, and maybe Kobe. I think Shaq will end up winning if he stays healthy, but Tmac will be in the running until the very end.

Yao still has a couple years before he will be considered in the running for MVP.

I'm not a Rockets fan, but for all of your sake, I hope TMac signs long term with them, because that is just going to be a nasty duo. With Juwan Howard and Jim Jackson, along with Maurice Taylor, they can do a lot of damage.

KG and TD both need to get injured and you had better hope that LeBron, Shaq, Melo and Wade don't get any better (ha, yeah right).

I do hope he does better and plays less selfishly now that he has some quality players.

T-Mac wont win the MVP. Now, he has Yao on his team, and Yao will do a lot of the scoring and rebounding, making it harder for T-Mac to produce MVP like numbers. T-Mac will find it harder to score without a quality starting PG, although he did have this problem back in Orlando. If he gets MVP, it will be an outstanding season. Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan will be getting double double's every game, and T-Mac has Yao on his team which wont help his individual numbers.
