After being sited for Driving Under the Influence and unsafe backing he was released into the custody of his wife Monique. Payton is scheduled to appear at the downtown Los Angeles court on Oct. 15th, less than two weeks after the Celtics training camp is set to begin. Whether he will be in Boston is another mystery as the aging star has threatened to retire if he is forced to play for the Celtics. </div> Full Article Another NBA Star is involved in an illegal incident. This never ends, however this isn't a big case, so he shouldn't face any jail time!
I'm sure this incident still had something to do with the turmoil he has now with the Lakers. Because what is he still doing in the LA area? Probably went on the freeway and took out all his actons rollin' down the highway.
Could Payton have had a worst year? I hope that he will be remembered for what he did for the Sonics and not what he has done since being traded from Seattle.
This is another example of why kids should only look up to professional sports figures for what they do ON THE COURT. And no, I don't care what his off-season or other troubles have been like, there's no excuse for this thoughtless and selfish action, that could have ended in tragedy. Dumb move on GP's part.
i hope gp wakes up and realizes that was a stupid thing to do. he should just accept the fact he was traded to boston and get on with it and play.
He is so unhappy with his position in Boston. And I have to say I would be too. Things just continue to go downhill for him. He should just retier. IMO he's already a Hall of Famer, and he has a whole bunch of money, why not just retire before it gets any worse.
well who knows what his reasons were but lets face it the guy has his problems, but then again i dont tihnk its much of out business
http://insidehoops.com/index.shtml <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">(6:45PM ET, Thursday) "Gary Payton was detained by the California Highway Patrol on August 28, 2004, after he tried to exit a gridlocked freeway. Two lanes of the freeway had been shut down as the result of a major traffic accident. Mr. Payton voluntarily provided a breath test and was thereafter immediately released without being booked or having to post bail. According to Barry T. Simons, Mr. Payton's Laguna Beach Attorney, Gary was not impaired or under the influence, and the evidence will show that he was under the legal limit at the time he was driving. Mr. Simons also noted that roadside field sobriety testing is notoriously unreliable, even when properly administered by police. According to Mr. Simons, that was not done in this case"</div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting 44caliberThrila:</div><div class="quote_post">Did anyone read my last post in this thread?</div> Yes. All of that information about him not being under the influence and everything else...that was all from his attorney, just his word, so who knows if that's true or not.
Who knows if the article in the original post in this thread is true? We don't know what happened, and I hate to see so many people be so judgemental when they don't know all the facts. At least let the guy have his trial before you declare him guilty. P.S. Let me be early in wishing you a happy 21st, I will be right be behind you.
<font color="Red">It was speculated that he was backing up because he was trying to avoid traffic. He and his wife were at a get together where they had a couple of drinks, but his BAC was so close to the legal limit that he was ruled Not Impaired. It might be from that article, but I know I read it somewhere. ALCS</font>
While anything is possible 44, consider the circumstances of the 2 releases: The original report came from NBC sports and contained several things which are clearly contradictory to that which was released in statement by Paytons people. NBC has no reason to make those things up, but Payton's camp does. I'm not saying there wasn't a mistake made, but when in Payton's management release, they basically use the "LAPD defense" in saying that Payton's test wasn't properly administered, is strains credibility, IMO. Again, it's possible, but right now, I'm going to believe the trusted source here, not one that is trying to do damage control. PS: Happy 21st!
