Good, any minutes Laettner got would have taken away from Murphy and Biedrins' development.

Not to mention he isn't the best role model off the court.

Mmm... Little bit surprising, since he can be a 5 mils cap cleaner. I guess Warriors are really looking forward next year's caproom...

nah, I think they just didn't want him on the roster screwing up our rookies. Too bad we couldn't get a draft pick for him or something.

Mullin and Laettner must not have gotten very close when they were on the Dream Team together.

Technically, we could have given him a 'vacation' like how Mookie or NVE took. And, we could have used his contract situation by putting him on IL for entire year. But then, we had to cut some players for the roster movement anyway. And, in order to fry up some picks for his contract, we have to get a contract, which is more than a year length. Again, bit surprising to see his 5 mils contract was let go this early, but then, if we are looking for next year's caproom, there is only a little chance to do something with his contract without damaging our caproom situation. Sad to see original Dream Team member fading like this...

Well, there is the (slim) possibility in cutting him that someone will pick him up off of the waiver wire and hence, take his contract. Maybe that was the 'trade' Mullin had worked out with Charlotte. We'll see in the next few days.

I am the only one who is a little disappointed? I think he could have provided some good back up if we get a rash of injuries. Oh well, Mullin is smarter than me.

If you aren't the only one, you're probably in a profound minority. I don't think Laettner is the same jerk he was at Duke or in his first few years in the league, but I don't think he offers anything Robinson wouldn't give the team.

Basically, since I'd rather see Dunleavy, Murphy, Pietrus, Najera, Biedrins, Cheaney, or Robinson get minutes at forward before Laettner did, if a rash of injuries would have forced Montgomery to give Laettner playing time, the Warriors have bigger problems than regretting having let Laettner go.

This offseason, Laetner learned he was not wanted by three teams (Washington,
Dallas and Golden State), now he'll find out there there are a whole bunch more
teams out there that also don't want him. hehe

That is true. PT was a concern for me.

Has there been scenario of this happening before where one team waives a guy so another guy can pick him up and then we get something?

I can't think of one off the top of my head. I don't think the Lakers sent Washington anything when Washington waived Mitch Richmond.

The closest thing I can think of was when Utah agreed to put Pavlovic off their protected list so Charlotte could draft him and trade him to Cleveland. I can't remember what compensation Utah got though (it might have just been Charlotte agreeing not to go after some free agent). Since it was so long ago, the only link I could find was for his subsequent trade to Cleveland:

    link

The point is pretty much moot though, as I don't see anyone willing to pick up Laettner's 6.2 mil.

Does this open a spot up for that one big man who is supposed to be a freak shot blocker or something who played in the summer league? I think his name was Cisse? Or maybe they'll add another PG like former Cardinal Art Lee. I don't know nor think there could be too much gained or lost from those moves, but it's a move to note.

I'm glad that the Warriors did this so that guys like Cheaney get some more PT. Especially after the Warriors just signed him to a new deal in the off-season.
