from http://insidehoops.com/nba_rumors.shtml Goodwin Sports Management speaking about Gary Payton: (6:45PM ET, Thursday) "Gary Payton was detained by the California Highway Patrol on August 28, 2004, after he tried to exit a gridlocked freeway. Two lanes of the freeway had been shut down as the result of a major traffic accident. Mr. Payton voluntarily provided a breath test and was thereafter immediately released without being booked or having to post bail. According to Barry T. Simons, Mr. Payton's Laguna Beach Attorney, Gary was not impaired or under the influence, and the evidence will show that he was under the legal limit at the time he was driving. Mr. Simons also noted that roadside field sobriety testing is notoriously unreliable, even when properly administered by police. According to Mr. Simons, that was not done in this case." They're arguing that he wasn't properly administered his sobriety test? NBC sports first reported this story, claiming he was not only arrested, but given a chemical test at the station. He's got a court date on Oct. 15th for this, but I fail to see how the 2 stories can be so far apart in thier reporting of what actually happened. The fact that his agents are questioning the validity of the testing leads me to believe that they are going to try and make the officer(s) in question look incompetent. If he's not guilty of this, good for him, but I trust NBC sports alot more than I trust GP's agents, who obviously have thier own agenda.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting hagrid:</div><div class="quote_post">Really? Are you representing him too? </div> Ahh, I didn't understand why you said this...until I thought a little harder and realized that you love the Celts So...question for you...how do you think this will affect his decision to play with the Celtics? I guess a better way to ask this question is this: having troubles with the Celtic organization already (as far as showing up for the physical and what-not) and now his offcourt troubles, how much more is needed, in your opinion, for Gary Payton to just call it quits?
First, you're making an undue leap that GP has a problem with the Celtics Organization, which even in GP's own words is not the case. Second, Chungster jumped the gun and stated he was done, which hasn't been stated either. If it was just an opinion, Chungster should have said so, rather than presenting it as if he/she had implicit knowledge that the rest of the world doesn't. Theres's 3 little letters missing from that post: IMO. Frankly, I don't really care whether GP comes to Boston or not, so your insinuation that my comments are somehow related to some kind of Celtic homerism are unfounded. (assuming that's where you were going, which was how I interpreted them. If I've incorrectly made that assumption, I apologize) Regardless, GP's not going to hang it up, unless he has no passion for the game left. He know's Danny will find a way to trade him, all he has to do is request it, assuming he hasn't already. Off-court problems are just that, off-court problems. Since you're a Laker fan , allow me to draw a correlary: Kobe bryant had what most will term pretty severe off-court troubles, yet after every court appearance, he played like a madman. For some players, the court is a way to escape or release tension from the world outside.
