The heat would get a grade deducted from their offseason report if they let that happen. Thank god this sports writer doesn't make professional decisions for the Heat, or else we'd have this dirty hippy representing our team
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Heat hopes to sign veteran free agent forward Christian Laettner in the next few days, several sources said. Laettner, 35, who was released by Golden State on Thursday, has expressed interest in joining Miami but has other options, according to a league source. Miami can offer the veteran's minimum ($1 million), while several other teams could offer more. The Warriors are responsible for his $6.2 million salary for next season.</div> http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/9625089.htm
I dont really see much negative in the Heat signing Laettner to 1-year veteran minimum deal to be honest. He will be an insurance bigman on a roster that doesnt have much depth at their bigman spots. I mean Doleac isnt that reliable, seeing as he has been in & out of lineups for the last 3 or 4 season since leaving Orlando. Undonas Haslem and Malik Allen are decent but after that the Heat dont have much else as far as bigmen goes outside of Shaq. Laettner can spend time at the 4, where he does a decent jod of making the mid-range jumper from the high post, which should fit in well for Shaq. And he can also spend some minutes at the 5 spot. So adding Laettner to the bench would work for the Heat in my opinion.
Does anyone know if we are gonna sign malone? Pat said he would like to but I don't know if we are going to...We do need another quality big man.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting WadeDynasty:</div><div class="quote_post">Does anyone know if we are gonna sign malone? Laettner will be a good piece for the Heat. AS Henacy mentioned, Laettner will fill the need for backup centers and power forwards on the Heat roster, and he has the veteran savvy and the skills needed to even be a starter. He can hit an outside jumper consistently and can also bang down low if needed. Besides, they don't need much in the frontcourt with Shaq there.
All they need now is Zo Mourning and they will have the top 3 picks from the 1992 draft. But in all seriousness, I don't like Laettner paired up with Shaq. I see a major chemistry problem if they bring him aboard. If they do get him for $1M though, it would be a steal value wise for the Heat. Still it seems Laettner is a team cancer where ever he ends up.
Christian Laettner-4 teams in one off-season That has to be some kind of record The Miami Herald has reported the Heat and Christian Laettner have come to terms busy off-season for him from Wizards to Dallas Dallas to Golden State now onto Miami I hope for his sake he signs a deal for more than 1 season.
