<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">``My dream was just to play in the NBA,'' Drexler said as he prepared for his induction Friday into the Basketball Hall of Fame. ``I still don't believe it. It's awesome.''

Former coach Bill Sharman, already in the Hall of Fame as a player, also will be inducted, along with the late Maurice Stokes, the 1956 NBA rookie of the year; Lynette Woodard, an Olympic gold medalist and the first woman to play for the Harlem Globetrotters; Jerry Colangelo, chairman of the Phoenix Suns; and Drazen Dalipagic, an international star.

Hall of Famer and friend Julius Erving was to present Drexler at the induction ceremony. As a kid playing alone on the Houston playgrounds, Drexler imagined he was Dr. J with a championship on the line.

`Julius was my biggest role model. He had a lot of class on and off the court,'' Drexler said.</div>

Has Dominique been retired long enough to be put in the hall of fame? He last played in the 99 season I think, so I don't think he has been retired long enough to be enducted. Why complain about Dominique when guys like Adrian Dantley hasn't been put in?

Yeah, there are many other players who also deserve to get in, but haven't yet. But I think 'Nique will definitely get in next year. You're right, Clyde retired in 98, and 'Nique retired in '99. So next year he'll be eligible. There's another thread listing players who should be in the Hall. Beyond Dantley, I think Artis Gilmore, Paul Westphal, and Bernard King all deserve to be in there.

It was nice to see such a good guy in Bill Sharman, make the hall of fame as a coach. He is only th 3rd person to be inducted as a coach, and a player. Also it was great to see The Glyde make the hall, he was a great player, one of the greatest. And it was great to see, a womens player, a foreign player, and a coach all in the same class, it almost brought tears to my eyes, it shows the evolution of the game.

Awesome. Drexler was my second favorite player, right behind MJ during the early 90's. He's the apitome of what a SG should be, it's great to see him get inducted into the hall of fame in such a short time.

Bernard king deserved to go in...again...what the hell people
In 13 of his 17 years he scored 20+ppg
rookie year: 24.2, 9.5, 1.6 steals (rookie of the year right...wrong)
    1984-85: 32 ppg, 6 boards...(MVP right...wrong)
    83-84: 26 ppg 5 boards...588 shooting percentage!!!!!
    90-91: 28 ppg, 5 boards, 5 assists at 36 years old
Career Stats 17 years: 22.5 ppg, 6 rpg, 4 apg and 518 Shooting Percentage
And 4 all star games...how does that make sense
Drexler deserved it...Nique, Dantley deserve it...but Bernard King...Hell Yeah he deserves it...

^ Yeah King put up great numbers. I have a feeling he will be in the class of '06 IMO. Don't worry he'll get in sometime.

Every year there will be snubs, but Drexler was a great choice to the Basketball HOF. Do you think he should be remembered as a Blazer or Rocket?

no way he was 100 times more dominant as a Blazer...if it wasnt for jordan he would have won at least 1 ring...in his years in Houston he was a role player...with the blazers he was a superstar

In Houston, he'll be remembered as a Rocket. That's how I remember him. Can't speak for anyone else.

He's a Hall of Famer based on his Blazer credentials, though. But he was still a great player for the Rockets. Here are his numbers as a Rocket:

    18.97 ppg
    6.11 rpg
    5.44 apg
    1.88 spg
    44.5% from the field

He really didn't lose too much over the years. Not too many guards have been able to average over 18 points per game in their 15th season.

Also although The Glide was more dominant and people will remember him more as a Blazer i remember he once came and assist away from a quadruple double as a rocket!...but still into the hall as a Blazer for him

Yep, his first game in the Summit as a Rocket. That was awesome.

I'm glad Maurice Stokes made it. He was going to be something great. He played only three seasons in the league back in the 50's, not sure the exact date, and he averaged 16 PPG and 17 RPG for his three seasons with the Royals. He was an All-Star all three times, and also won the Rookie of the Year award.

That third season, almost the end of it, he fell and hit his head on the court and it put him in a coma, eventually paralyzing him. He died about 12 years later...he was in his mid-30's. Pretty sad...I wrote a report on him back when I was in high school...I just don't remember some of it because it was 5 years ago, but he was going to be an incredible player.

Congrats to Clyde. But who did Nique play for in 99. The last time I can remember him playing was for San Antonio in the 96-97 season when the admiral was injured for about the whole season.

Yup I do remember Nique only as a Hawk. Though I remember him playing with the Celts but never the Clippers. I wouldn't have even known that if it wasn't for beyond the glory. But I do remember Clyde as Rocket and Blazer. It's a tuff one but I was very happy for him to win a ring.

One thing I dont understand about this "50 greatest players of all times" is, when a new player gets in there, do they kick someone out?
