Inside Dish: Fortson is the Sonics' new inside man

    By Sean Deveney - SportingNews

Interior toughness was a problem for the Sonics last season. The team ranked tied for 27th in rebounding percentage and 22nd in opponents' field-goal percentage. So, the Sonics dealt for Mack-truck PF Danny Fortson, sending softie C Calvin Booth to Dallas. Fortson has not played much the past two seasons. He shoots and turns the ball over too often, which caused him to fall out of favor in Golden State two years ago, and was a bad fit with the Mavericks last season. But he is a wide body capable of averaging 10 rebounds. He has a reputation as a complainer and a chemistry killer, but that does not concern Sonics G.M. Rick Sund. "Just about everybody on our team complained about minutes at some point last season," Sund says. "And that is typical of all the teams in the league." . . .

When the Rockets signed G Bob Sura in August, it was a wonder he still was available. Turns out Sura had offers from other teams but had focused on going to Houston all along. . . .

Charlie Ward and Tyronn Lue give the Rockets depth and experience at point guard, but the team probably would like to add more size, defense and shooting down the road. Clippers PG Marko Jaric, a free agent in 2005, is a possibility. . . .

A league source says commissioner David Stern believes, in the wake of the NFL's victory in the Maurice Clarett case, that a rule restricting players under 20 from the NBA would hold up in court. The Clarett decision means an age requirement would be legal if agreed upon by the NBA and the union in a bargaining agreement. Still, it's expected that union head Billy Hunter will hold firm on his opposition to a requirement, and any new rule won't be included in the league's next agreement.

Pretty much run of the mill stuff there. You know what you get with Danny - hopefully he'll relish a fresh start and settle down, but as long as he brings his trademark physical play and rebounds the basketball, I'll be happy.

Until he kills a teammate, that is.

The Fortson acquisition was the one good thing that we did this offseason. He'll be the least of our problems this year. I'm just wondering how many teammates that both he and Reggie Evans are going to hurt in practice.

    *dream sequence*

*Danny Fortson bowls over Jerome James*

    Danny: Say my name, *****!

    Jerome: I'm sorry, Dan--

    Danny: Grrr.

    Jerome: MR. Fortson

*Danny jogs back up the court*

 The thought of that makes me smile.

JJ would be too busy crying to be that respectful:

    "I'm dobbing on you...

Mr McMillan....Danny hit me, make him run laps"
