He's got potential like most of the players Mullin shows interest in. I'm hoping he can be a really good spark off the bench in the fashion of a healthy Bobby Jackson or Juan Dixon 2 years from now (Dixon could be good if he hits the weights more and gets more playing time). Of course there's a difference between pg's that go early in the first round to those that go late in the second round. So let's see if he can prove something to the teams that passed him over. Who knows maybe he can be like Gilbert Arenas (when he isn't being selfish) and end up as a possible starter.

He's athletic, he's got a good shot and score in a variety of ways, he can defend, he's had 4 years of college. He could be a good bench contributor that can play the 1 or 2 and match up against other undersized 2's like Jason Terry or A.I or David Wesley.

He has the potential to be a taller Earl Boykins, and we saw how that worked out for the Warriors. He was one of the better scorers in small-conference history, maybe even NCAA history. He just has that knack where he finds the hoop so easily. But he needs to prove he can play in the big time, he struggled his freshaman year playing in the Big-East at Rutgers. He needs to become a better passer. he only averaged 1.6 assists per game last year, and for a top point guard that's a little low. But I would like too see if he develops into what he can be.

He gave the kid a 3 year deal...Mullin thinks this kid could be very good someday. We'll have to see how he plays in the NBA. I'd rather have this kid than Dickau.

no, he is not a better version of earl boykins, he is much more like flip murray, which is good, he plays good d and can play at pg in the game with dunleavy running the offense.

also, his contract is what arenas should have got, 2 years guarenteed and the third a team option, this way if he is good(which he will be) and the warriors pick up the third year, when he is a FA we get his bird rights and can resign him to any amount even if it a) puts us over the cap or [IMG] we are already over the cap.

great work by mullin to steal this guy from nelson in that trade.

Have you watched this guy play? I know you didn't say he will be Flip Murray but anything similar to that guy would be great. If he does wear a headband, hopefully he'll wear it a bit higher than flip.

I saw him play a bit in college, and I thought he looked great. I never understood why he was that late of a pick...

Unless you are Iverson, 6'2" shooting guards aren't hot commodities in the NBA. The main reason, they normally can't guard bigger two guards. Luis Flores is not the answer to any of the Warriors problems.

Anyone remember how touted Dejuan Wagner was out of college/high school? I do hope Flores proves me wrong, but I'm doubtful that he will.

NotMuch, he didn't get drafted high because he hadn't proven he could play against tough competition. He played for Rutgers before tansfering out to Manhattan. He only averaged about 4 points, 1 assist and 2 rebounds at Rutgers. Then when he got to Manhattan and started playing against lesser oponents he flourished.

well, I don't think that's all to it. A lot of HS guys get drafted early, as well as JuCo guys. Those guys have never "proven" they could play tough competition either. I think it's more of what Iron Shiek said, small 2 guards aren't valued. However, the last small 2-guard the Warriors drafted was Gilbert Arenas (I'm counting Logan as a point), so you never know. You might end up with an eddie house or corey alexander, but hey, its a 2nd round pick, so it's not much of a risk IMO.

Yeah I agree with what Iron said, but also he didn't get all the publicity that comes with being a star high schooler, he didn't have cameras foloowing him around, and he was one of those dominating JUCO guys. He just played small-ball. I don't think he will be like Gilbert Arenas. But yeah like you said they aren't taking a huge risk.

    Strengths:
Puts full-court pressure on the offense without letting them go by? a great athlete? will get to the line often because he is a very tough attacker going to the basket and he?s also not afraid to take physical contact? does a good job of creating a lot of space to get himself easy lay-ups? a terrific scorer, has no trouble getting open lanes and getting into the basket because of his first-step and quickness? loves to run the fast break?

    Weaknesses:
Very limited shooter, makes most of his shots as lay-ups and can?t hit from much else where? takes too many shots out of his range? not that great of a decision maker? he plays point guard, but really is an undersized shooting guard or combo guard because he does a lot of the scoring for his team? only plays offense in a fast-break style, needs to learn to control the tempo and become more of a floor general, he seems to have only one tempo which is cutthroat?

     STRENGTHS:

Explosive scorer. Nothing more to say but I will expand a bit. Flores has a proficient and protected handle which allows him to penetrate with relative ease and he has a great hangtime allowing him to alter his shot in midair to foil defenses. He also shows significant skill in using the glass. However, Flores's greatest offensive skill is his tenacity at getting to the freethrow line; where he can knock it down at a cool 90%.

    WEAKNESSES:

He cannot play the point. He has neither the temperament nor the passing skills to do so. This is not a situation similar to someone such as Allen Iverson where a player is more effective at the shooting guard instead of the point- Flores simply cannot be an NBA PG unless his game gets a complete overhaul. At the SG his size prohibits any legitimate defense. The only logical position would be next to a tall point guard who could guard opposing SGs.

    COMPETITION:

Flores's only game of importance in his senior season was in a loss to Syracuse. Flores had a solid 22 points in the 6 point loss. Opposing PG/SGs and marginal draft prospects themselves Gerry McNamara and Billy Edelin had 16 and 17 points respectively.

    OUTLOOK:

As a senior Flores is guaranteed to be in the 2004 NBA Draft. The safe bet is to expect him to be a late 2nd round selection. His performance in the Portsmouth and Chicago draft camps will greatly affect his draft position. If he somehow shows the ability to play the point then you can expect to see his stock soar into maybe even a early 2nd round pick.

On the other hand I do expect Greer to find a spot someday. If Flores learns how to play the point then there is no doubt someday he will be in the league- I just don't see that happening.

florez won't be playing 2guard, he is going to be playing pg when dunleavy is in and let dunleavy run the offense, which he did very well at the end of the year when jrich, pietrus, and dunleavy were our starting 1/2/3 for a short stint.
