A fellow JBB member Sunshine was talking about this man on the Houston thread. He was saying that he is a true 7 footer I guess meaning he's 7 feet tall without shoes and that he can touch the rim flat footed. Arms 36 inches above his head and can jump just as high as Vince. 42 inches + a 10 foot reach should equal greatest shot blocker of all-time. But he definately needs to put on some pounds. What do the rest of Mavs fan think about this guy.

He sounds like he needs some weight, or to bulk up just a little bit more. I dont think he will get much mintues this year, he will be kinda like Dalembert for the Sixers, it will take a year or two for him to develop, but I think he will be awsome.

Precisely, I was thinking that he would be like a Samuel Dalembert myself. Like to see him play. So hopefully the Mavs blow out a team on tv and no other game is on so he can get those garbage minutes. I just gotta see one of the longest arms in the world supposedly anyways.

Thanks 30, for posting about my man D.J. We've heard the stories from the
Nelsons about "the best running big man in the NBA", who was later identified
as the forgettable Chris Ansey. We've heard about the "seven foot German
that can shoot threes", whose story obviously turned out a lot better. The
Mavs have been sitting on this guy for a couple years. He blew out a knee
two years ago, and they've had him hiding in Sweden.

I saw him play summer league against Yao, and definitely, the dude could deny
the pass to Yao by standing behind him and using his reach to swat away the
passes. He led the summer league (all teams) in blocks. And he sure does
look like Popeye Jones, but a comparison to Dalembert is a good one.

He definitely needs minutes. I'm hopeful that he can play power forward, since
there is no real backup for Dirk. With Dampier, Bradley and Booth all being true
centers, maybe D.J. will be athletic enough to far exceed Najera as a hussle
player on this roster. If he plays, he could be the next Ben Wallace.

If he puts on atleast 30 pounds of muscle and gets his shot blocking ability down to a science, he has the potential to be a better scoring Mark Eaton. Whenever you are 7'0 and have a 40 inch vertical, you can play. I think he can be better then Samuel Dalembert. But he just has to take his time, and not rush into anything. Because if he rushes he could become a flare and burn out, soon. He also probably needs to work on his conditioning.

No, he can't shoot. He can dunk, but that's about it.

^ Then again in this day in age half of the NBA players can't anyway. He would fit in well in the NBA but I'm not sure if he would fit in well with the Mavs since they like to run and shoot. They are like basketball's Steve Spurrie's run n' gun.

This guy is being described to me as almost a Stromile Swift. Is that a reasonable comparison???

Interesting point J33. Unfortunately, you are right about that, but I hope it
changes this year. Some teams like San Antonio are great defensively largely
because they burn so much time of the offensive end and don't give up easy
buckets, they make teams beat you in half court sets. The Mavs play wide open,
but to block a shot, deflect a pass or grab a rebound on the defensive end
can turn into an easy hoop on the other end. I don't expect the Mavs to be a "great"
defensive team, but I expect them to put a lot more pressure on the ball,
play more man to man, with less reliance on help defenders, block more shots,
steal more passes, and grab more rebounds. They won't try to hold teams to
70 points, but they will try to make teams pay for turnovers and missed shots.
I think they've learned their lessons with their Spurrier offense, that wins 50+
games, but peters out in the playoffs.

So you gonna be WizJ33 soon?

It would be surprising if he could shoot. Not to many long armed people can except for Sam Perkins. Talking about players with extra extra wingspan like D Miles, Ben Wallace, Kandi Man, etc. I'm still inshocked he has a wingspan like that guy Jaber and has leaping ability like Vince.

Anybody got a pic of him touching the rim flatfooted? Being 7 foot flat that's just simply amazing. The Dhalsim of the league.

What an interesting guy. He has cordination that enables him to jump like he was 6 inches shorter. A black belt in Judo wow and has only been playing for 4 years. I can't imagine just starting to play basketball at 20. Boy it pays off to be tall and cordinated. I see he has put on 25lbs as well. I'm very eager to see him play.

I say he puts on another 20 or 25 punds and he could be a dominant force I am already calling it. Wjeter that is instant offense off the bench or a good starter. We won't know until he suits up in the NBA for the first time. But I hope he does good.

I think 245lbs is good enough. Maybe 250 max, cause Patrick Ewing was 240 for most of his career and he's a HOF. Wouldn't want him to lose his quickness and a 1 or 2 decrease in his jumping ability.

I don't think 245 pounds for a center or a 4 is enough, that's just too little. Well maybe not 20 pounds he should probably be like 255, and he will be good, because he will get punished if he is under-weight.

Man, he does need to bulk up. Al Harrington weighs more than him, and Al's a SF this guy is going to be a C so he really needs the weight. If he really is that big and can jump that high, he might just be one of the greatest shot blockers of all-time.

The man may be stronger then he looks. I wouldn't be surprised if he could bench 385 to 405 honestly and squat 500. He could be like Robinson too, he was 235 for alot of his career until the end where he was 250. But David was an inch taller so it's equalvalent. Or maybe your right. We're just gonna have to see if he gets pushed around alot. But if he can hold his ground and get some minutes he should lead the league in blocks per minute. Like Shawn Bradely but without getting dunked on 80 times a year.
