What in the world is this. I guess we have our final trade Laker Fans. Luke Walton + Deven George for Marcus Banks + Yogi Stewart. Why would you trade Luke, he's a great passer and I see him as great future player. But then we get the quickness of Banks which will come in handy with Parker. http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_9673.shtml <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Inside information out of Boston has indicated that the Lakers and Celtics may be working on another deal once the Celtics have confirmation that Payton is good to go. Marcus Banks and seldom used Yogi Stewart to the Lakers for Luke Walton and Devean George. The Lakers would hate to see Walton go, but it amounts to losing your third string small forward for a young point guard who ultimately could grow into the starting role. George is recovering from ankle surgery and will miss at least the first months of the season. He never healed correctly from that spill he took against the San Antonio Spurs back in the 2003 playoffs but should be back to normal once he mends. Although he had some excellent moments in Los Angeles, he hasn't performed up to expectations after the Lakers gave him a nice contract.</div>
Out of all the trades/rumors I've read this summer, I hate this one the most by far.. I've actually gotten over the fact that we don't have Banks, and now there's rumors about bringing him back again? No thanks. There's something about this guy Yogi Stewart that I've always HATED, and I would hate to see him as a Laker.. Although we would aquire a much needed PG, I don't think he's worth both George and Walton..
idk, i mean i really like Luke, but right now we need a good prospect pg, it kind of makes sense you know so really as a fan i hate to see this trade go thro, but for the good of the team, it shud prob be done
I would do this deal. If you look at it in last year terms, we'd be trading a second round pick and Deavan George for a 1st round pick and a filler. If we are looking at our current roster, we're totally stacked at the wing positions. If we trade Walton and George, that would leave us with (guys who can play the wing) Kobe, Rush, Butler, Odom, Vujacic, and Jones. Kobe will play 40+ minutes a game. Lets just assume that Odom will only play powerfoward and Vujacic will only play point guard (which will not be the case), that still only leaves about 56 minutes left to distribute amongst Rush and Butler. If you keep Walton and George in the picture, there will be odd men out. All of them are too good to ride the pine. Banks will give the Lakers much needed quickness, and a longterm one at that.
^Ya broke it down. But just looking at the title of the thread the first thing that came to mind was NOOO!!!!!!!!!! nMg always have good points. But I can't see Luke gone from LA. Well actually I guess I could see him in a green uniform like his father. IDK what to really think about this.
It's a good trade, but I'd rather have someone with a little more experience than Marcus Banks. We can get a little better out of both Walton and George, because I don't care much for Yogi Stewart (Michael Stewart, just in case anyone is wondering). Come on, Stewart was never drafted, and he's been with the Kings, Raptors, Cavs and Celtics already since 1997. He can't play any offense...all he does is wait for a rebound or an opportunity to block a shot. Oh well...I'm thinking the Lakers will just release him once they get him anyways.
well I really dont know what to say about this trade form a lakers standpoint i just see it as a risk. but as NMG stated they wood be overloaded so i'm guessing this is really a good move for both teams. I'm also guessing the lakers see some potential in this kid banks or either they are truly desperate for a pg. As for the celtics they are really shaping up by taking all of the lakers throw aways. they should be a nice contending team next year. Paul pierce should be delighted to have all these players on his team. Especially if payton plays for Bean town.
i dont like this trade. Luke Walton proved to be very useful during the last season. why would they trade away someone with so much potential like Luke?
I like this trade. I mean, Walton has some potential because he's a good passer but he's not very quick, and Banks has even more potential than Walton does. George is decent at best, and the Lakers have way too many SF anyway so...yeah, good trade. <font color="Red">EDIT-cursing </font> He's good but let's face it, he'll never be an all star.
Neither will Banks. And you dont need a team full of allstars, you need TEAM players, like Walton. By the way, Banks said before that he didnt want to get traded because he has just adjusted to Boston, he has alot of friends there, and most importantly; his son wants to stay
True but Banks could be a team player...yo never know, players change. Also, one of th emost important things to remember is that the Lakers had too many SF and SOMEONE had to go. You could make an argument for every SF the Lakers had, but I think this is for the best. Haha, my post got edited. Guess you'll never know what I said...
Man, it sucks Walton can be more than a good role player... his ball IQ is very high... and I wonder, are the contracts of Banks+Stewart even match that of Devean?
I'm currently indifferent about this trade. I like Luke and all and wouldn't want to see him go, but on the other hand, we do need a back up point guard soley because I don't want to have to throw Vujacic in there already. This trade would give us that. But, I don't know if I'd want to trade off Luke. We'll have to see what Kupchak and company do over the coming days.

I don't know what I was thinking.
Why would the Celtics want to get rid of Banks? He is still young and has room to improve his game. If either one of these teams do this trade, they're both crazy.
