What are your opinions on the deal? It would be Luke Walton and Devean George for Banks and Stewart. I'm not very happy with it...I do like Banks, but Yogi is terrible. Devean needs to heal up...but Luke is becoming a solid player. We need a PG...haha, there's both good and bad to this trade. http://www.hoopsworld.com/article_9673.shtml
yep, we had this up on the celticsblog (which EP acknowledges in his piece) I don't see the point of this one, unless Dannyboy's really soured on Banks and really sees something in Walton. Yogi and George being in this must somehow make the numbers work, because including either guy is basically pointless otherwise. George isn't expected back from surgery recovery until December and even then, how much of an impact would he be. Yogi......well his only usefullness is as an expiring contract and someone well acquainted with serving a mean cup of Gatorade to tired players coming off the floor. If it was just Walton and Banks straight up, I'd be happier, but I'm not sure there is any solid validity to this rumor to begin with, so I guess we'll just wait and see.
I hate this trade, I like Luke Walton but I got a feeling that Marcus Banks is gonna be a great player in a year or so, I really hope this trade doesnt go down, Marcus Banks reminds me of a quicker Sam Cassell
I don't see this trade going down, though Kupchak has been interested in aquiring Banks since before he got drafted. I agree a bit with both Hags and Bballin4life. I agree that a Walton for Banks trade might be good. Banks still looks like he will never be the point guard that we need him to be. His court vision during summer leagues was terrible, and with so many potential scoring threats on the roster, we don't need a scoring PG. Walton is a great passing big man, and would fit in nicely to the Princeton style offense we are trying to run. And George and Stewart would be a pointless throw-in, though from a talent perspective, George would be a slight upgrade. Though he probably wouldn't get any PT with so many swing players on the C's roster. But I agree with Bballin a tad bit in that, while he looked terrible in SL, I still have some hope that Banks is gonna be a real player once he learns the game and gains confidence. It's be a risky trade, IMO.
And can I just say that if this does go down, I feel really bad for Banks. Getting drafted at 13 and championed as the PG of the future, getting traded and getting your family all pissed off, getting traded back and having Ainge apologize, then getting traded again? What the f$*&?

I hate this trade for both teams. George is a good player, and could probably shine in Boston, but he would again belost in a rotation with davis and welsh. Then Boston loses Banks, and if payton leaves where is there poinbt guard? They will then become the Toronto Raptors of the past couple of years a team with talent, but no point guard.
This is just a bad trade all around for the Celtics. They don't need another G/F like George or another F like Walton. Unless Ainge has lost all faith in Banks, or Delonte West has shown him something, this trade shouldn't happen.
Well, Walton brings alot of intangibles to the table especially his passing skills for his size. And his shooting range is improving. So that makes him a versitle player who can play a bit at the 3 & 4(even tho he is a defensive liablity really at both). But I think Walton's intangibles could really help a team. I think he would be a nice backup to PP, but is that worth giving up Marcus Banks? Maybe, while banks has alot of potenial, how much rooom is there in Boston for him to grow. Dolente West is going to be a pg at the NBA level, so he is going to need the minutes to grow into the position if Boston has plans for him in the future. That drops Marcus Banks back to the 3rd string point guard behind GP & West. So maybe Boston isnt the fit for Banks to grow. Anyway, I dont like Devean George that much. He cant really create his own shot. He has to be a spot up shooter & a cutter playing off a inside presence, something the Celtics dont really have. Also it seems that George often lacks confidence in his own talents. At times with the lakers it didnt seem he believed in his own ablities in certian situations. So that tells a little bit about how good he actually is or will become. BTW, I dont really see Banks being like Sammy, Banks is more of a defensive player. And Banks is more of a spot up shooter. He isnt that great shooting off the dribble, while Sam mainly shoots off the dribble.

He usually made a really nice lay-up or two every game, but his shooting needs improvement in all areas.

So thats alot different from Cassell, who mainly creates his own shot.
Banks is a thief, he is a really great defender gets a lot of steals and can usually convert the lay up on it hes improving greatly on his shot, if he gets the chance, he can really shine btw great sig Henacy
Don't worry Quickness, we'll keep you informed as soon as anything breaks. According to his agent, "the situation could be resolved in a week or so", so hopefully we'll have some closure to this soon, one way or another.
This article seems to indicate that his agent thinks Banks and Payton will both be playing for the C's this year. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting hagrid:</div><div class="quote_post">Don't worry Quickness, we'll keep you informed as soon as anything breaks. Damn, you beat me to it ranter! Yeah, odd to think we might be getting an update on the Payton situation via Banks' agent, but hey, any news is better then none at all.
