There seems to be alot of debate in the recent posts about which player best fits the 2/3 spot off the bench, and for some reason, everyone seems to forget about Augmon. It appears that Bogans seems to be the best option because of his age and decent rookie year, according to the recent posts on the board. Well I want to set the record straight and show why I feel that Augmon is the better player of the two.

Bogans and Augmon each had similar seasons last year, except one major difference-Bogans is 24 and Augmon is 36. Bogans started 36 games due to Orlando having a lack of SGs, and T-Mac missing 15 games. Augmon started 24 games, (his most in 7 seasons), due to Wesleys injuries and Lynchs sub-par playing. Between January and April, both Bogans and Augmons minutes increased due to more playing time. Here are their stats in those 4 months:

    Bogans-28.6 mins, 4.5 rebs, 1.7 asts, .72 stls, 8.0 pts

    Augmon-23.2 mins, 2.8 rebs, 1.4 asts, .80 stls, 6.8 pts

The only major difference in these stats, is that Bogans Rebounding average was better, whilst Augmon played along the likes of PJ Brown, Jamaal Magloire and David West-all top rebounders. Here are Bogans and Augmons individual season highs for last season:

    Bogans-12 rebs, 7 asts, 4 stls and 21 pts

    Augmon-9 rebs, 5 asts, 5 stls and 21 pts

Whilst Bogans is only 24, and more athletic, he is only 6'5 and lacks the defense ability to "lock down" players. Another interesting stat is that Bogans hit 67 3ptrs and only 65 FTs. Never a 3pt shooter, Augmon hit only 1 3ptr, but hit 110 FTs, which shows that he works more under the boards and draws more fouls.

You could say that they both players have similar games and attributes, but Augmon is clearly a better defender, and has 13 yrs under his belt. When it comes down to the crunch, Augmon is cool as "Ice" and knows what it takes to win. This is gonna be a great season for the Orlando Magic, and Augmon is going to be a great mentor to Bogans. I know Bogans is eventually going to be a great player, but this could be a "learning" year for him and has the chance to learn from a great player in Augmon.

Bogans because he is more younger and can still get better. He is going to be a stud in the later years if you ask me.

I think that Bogans is better because he's younger and the only thing lacking in his game is his defense, which is average its not as bad as some other players who dont even play a lick of defense. Augmon is old and not a ideal 3pt shooter, if I were to choose who got to start it would be Keith Bogans.

I would think that each player will play a huge roll in the team this year, and both will contribute big time with the position they will be put in, but I believe that we will utilize Augman more as a defender to play clutch minutes and a vetern leader I see Bogans getting the majority of the minutes, because of youth, and the fact his career has yet to hit its upside while Augmans is way past that point.

Bogans was one of the Magic's best defenders last year and has no problem defending. He might not be as good as Augmon on defense due to a lack of experience, but in terms of potential, Bogans should live to be a much better player than Augmon was/is.

Right now though, I think that Bogans is going to see more action than Augmon. You of all people should know that we brought Augmon in for some depth, but more than anything, we brought him in for a veteran presence in the locker room. He's a good role model for the younger guys and is a pro that gives you what every coach wants every player to give: what he is asked - nothing more, nothing less.

Bingo. Both will be good for the team, but Bogans has the upside unless he gets the 2nd year jitters.
