<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Consider Miami coach Stan Van Gundy to be one of Heat No. 1 pick Dorell Wright's biggest fans despite the rookie not yet playing a single minute in the NBA. The Lakers asked about Wright during the Shaquille O'Neal trade talks but the Heat refused because of potential, that to some, conjures images of Tracy McGrady. ''He's got an incredible ability to get his own shot and score,'' coach Stan Van Gundy said. ``I'm not going in with the idea that because of his age he can't play this year. He will be treated like everyone else.''</div> Full Story
Yeah this kid is suppose to be da shizznit not only does he creates his own shots and scores but his long arms allow him to rebound like a monster (14rpg in South Kent Prep) This is what his nbadraft.net scouting report had to say: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Strengths: A high flyer, Dorell is a new comer to the basketball seen. Although still very raw Dorell has that raw athletic ability that makes coaches go wild. His super quick first step allows him to blaze by almost any defender with almost no effort. Dorell has a nice looking shot that is effective from anywhere on the floor. His quick feet and long arms give him the ability to be a very solid defender and rebounder. Dorell also has underrated passing and ball handling skills. With the right work ethic and coaching, Dorell could turn out to be one of the best players in his class. Weaknesses: Dorell is still very raw. His jump shot is developing and his understanding of the game is coming along nicely. By simply watching game tapes from his junior and senior year one can easily see the dramatic improvement in his game?Dorell will have to learn to position his body for rebounds and defense. Till now he has been able to use his otherworldly physical gifts to get by. He also needs to work on cutting down on turnovers and getting back on defense. Notes: A super prospect with the athletic talent to be a difference maker in the league.</div>The only problem he might have is that he is used to carrying the team so he jacks up a lot of shots but seeing as Van Gundy / Riley doesn't tolerate that kobe-esque attitude they will whip him into a team player and should excel in the Heat system. I doubt he will get the starting job (this season) but if he can develope enough that he can get minutes he will make a big impact on this team. Matt Frieje is gonna be real good too and should make an impact on the team as well.

Well I'll add something positive to a Heat thread for a change In my opinion, Matt Freije was a steal. He's a big shooter, and he'd be a great addition to the Heat. They need someone who can shoot and play down low...and guys like Haslem and Shaq only have a 10-foot shooting range. Freije can hit threes and mid-range jumpers. Dorell Wright is going to be really nice to have on the court. Maybe not as a starter his first year...I don't know how the Heat lineup is going to look, really, but I'd predict something like this: Shaq Haslem E. Jones Wade D. Jones That could be their best starting five...but if so, Dorell will be playing under Eddie Jones, which would be better than playing under Rasual Butler. If he has problems at the three, he can always be tried as an SG...but I like Wright, and I think he's got potential in the league as long as he gets others involved.

Not only is he playing under great diciplinarians like Riley, he is playing under Dwayne Wade and Shaq. If he's playing with Shaq and still thinks he can jack up shots whenever he wants, something is seriously wrong with him.
Dorell has been my one of my favorite players since I heard of him on NBAdraft.net. Dorell was drafted ahead of Jameer because the the need of a PG was easier to adress than getting someone to build there future on like Dorell, instead of 1 PG they got 2 this offseason, Keyon Dooling and Damon Jones.
He reminds me of and looks like a Tracy McGrady. Am I saying that I think he will end up being like T-Mac, you might ask? No I'm not. But he will be able to make a big impact immediatley. And I have seen him play and he reminds me of a less poliched T-Mac. We know he has speed since many major leabue baseball teams scouted him. And he is one of the best athletes of this year's draft. I look forward to seeing how he performs.
Since we were discussing Wright I'd figure to look at how he and other Heat players performed in the summer league. The Heat only won one game but the rookies showed promise. Wang didn't do too bad neither. Jerome Beasley still needs to improve and going into his second year as a pro he has to start doing it fast. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> <font size="3">Series Highlights:</font> <ul>[*]Wright's only game after straining his left groin, he had a game high 30pts and 5rpg against the Wizards [*]Matt Freije scored 25pts and went 5-6 from the arc against the Cavs. [*]Beasley led in scoring with a game high 17pts against the Nets. [*]Wang had a game high 17pts against the Celtics.[/list]</div>

Dorrel Wright will be one of two things: 1) A huge part of the future of this organization. 2) Trade bait.
Wright can play PG, SG, and SF...depending on how fast he matures and gets better as a PG, the Heat line up in the future could look sumtin like this: PG-Wright SG-Wade SF-Jones/Freije PF-Haslem C-Shaq Depends if he can handle being a PG and how fast he developes but that lineup right there is an instant title favorite. This lineup has talented youth and if Shaq stays conditioned he can play for another 6 years maybe more so it's all good . The scout report says he has underrated passing and ballhandling skillz and he's also 6-8 which gives him a unique advantage. You gotta give it to Pat Riley. He's made some real good moves this offseason that he's given this team, with Shaq's retirement being the deciding factor, about 6+ years to win championships  :beerchug:
