Heard this on the radio. Sura had surgery for a bad back recently. He'll be out for eight weeks. That means he'll miss training camp, the pre-season, and a couple weeks of the regular season. Hopefully, it won't be nagging problem for him during the season. Looks like Charlie Ward has the starting spot, for now.
yeah heres the link http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=sura...ov=st&type=lgns <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Sura's rehabilitation is expected to last at least eight weeks. The Rockets begin training camp October 5. The 2004-05 NBA season begins November 2. </div> We'll never know how well we would've done at the beginning of the season. In an interview Yao said that Sura would've started at point guard. Interesting. I'll find a link for that. It looks as though Ward will start, maybe Lue for his durability. It really is only 2 months, by the 3rd week of the season, he'll be back in our rotation. Nothing really to sweat about, but hopefully it wont pass around to any other players. Our depth is hurt a lot, Sura is a combo guard, he could back up Tracy and play point. But again, it's only 3 weeks, so I still think we should be in good shape. And if we win some of those games, we'll be even better after a guy that can pour in a double double coming back.
yeh i think the rockests will be fine. The only problem i see is the team unity that theses guys might not get thats comes along with attending training camp. but hey this team needs time anyway with all the new faces and all. the rockests should be a very interesting team to watch this year. I mean to see how t-mac adjusts to not being the focal point of the offense and all. But as i said before i think the rockets will be ok. as Magnomonkey said its only three weeks of the season that he'll be missing.
actually the link says minimum of 8 weeks.. he could miss more time than that. It might actually be a good thing because JVG can see what Reece Gaines can do. With Sura in the lineup I doubt he'd get any PT, but now we can see how well he does in real game situations and he might actually be a contributor later in the season.
This temporary loss could do more good than bad for us. Sura is already a proven veteran, so minutes will come by for him nonetheless. While he is out, unproven players like Gaines and Nachbar can get more minutes because of it and show what they can contribute to the team, and also learn from the increase in minutes.
This is good in only one sense, playing time for younger guys. Like Trip said Nachbar and Gaines will get more time if he's out and Charlie Ward will be our floor leader until he's back or even after he's back.
