<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The 76ers and agent Marc Cornstein have begun discussions about a contract extension for center Samuel Dalembert, but with an unusual variable.

The NBA's collective bargaining agreement with the players association expires at the end of this season, with speculation that various rules and constraints could undergo major changes.

As of now, the Sixers have until Oct. 29 to extend Dalembert's rookie contract for a maximum of 7 seasons, or must wait until after the season. Dalembert is scheduled to earn just under $1.6 million this season, with the Sixers holding a $2.36 million right of first refusal for 2005-06.

Since the Sixers already have picked up Dalembert's fourth-year option, they can start a new deal at any number the two sides negotiate. As a frame of reference, forward Kenny Thomas is playing on a 7-year, $50 million contract.

But it has been widely speculated that, in a new CBA, the maximum length of term could be as few as 4 years, and the financial ceilings could be less. Sixers president Billy King confirmed that he already has met with Cornstein, and very much wants to retain Dalembert. Also, King is likely to pick up the fourth-year option on guard/forward John Salmons' rookie contract, which would mean a jump from $925,680 to $1,669,001 for '05-06.</div>

Well, as you can see in the link above it's already in the works. Dalembert could quite possibly be a Top 10 FA next year, so this a very wise thing King is doing right now. After, last season and pending on how well Dalembert performs this season, you can expect numerous teams throwing big bucks at him. So it's a good thing that King is looking to extend his contract before he can become a FA. Next season King main priority is going to be resigning Willie Green and Kyle Korver. So hopefully, that plays our right. Not to mention, King is also looking to pick up Salmons fourth-year option as well.

Great news here, it's good that we can get a nice young center locked up in Philly. Also King (if they get the contract worked out) will now be focusing on the other free agents next year...Good move by Sixers (if everything gets worked out). I was getting a little nervous that they would let Dalembert go (don't know why but I was getting nervous) but it's nice to know that they are working something out.

I was encouraging this to happen next offseason but I am happy that they are going to resign him now,if they dont want him to take the risk of exploring his options then they should deffiantly do it now, before OCT 29.

Lets just hope he keeps up the good work and doesnt start slacking once he gets a nice contract from us.

I'm really happy that the sixers are resighning Dalembert to an extension. this kidd has alot of potential.

Plus the Sixers center spot is weak now with Colemn on the pistons roster, and Todd retiring it would be an absolute shame for the sixers to lose Dalembert to free agency.
