<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Yao Ming's future in Houston seems even more certain today, than it did yesterday. "You know what," Yao said, "in China most players play for the same team for their whole life." It is likely Yao will maintain that ethic in Houston. The Rockets will be able to pay Yao more than any other team and with Tracy McGrady on board, they will have the best outside/inside game in the entire league. "I'd like to stay here," he said. "I like Houston's people. They've been nice to me. I'm lucky I'm not here in the summer."</div> Full Story
Great news, although it comes at no surprise. Yao was right, Chinese players often play with one team their whole career and unless he gets released or traded, he'll choose to stick with Houston. Maybe this will put off the rumored max contract offer from Golden State when Yao becomes a free agent.
This is good. Yao sounds like hes happy and really like playing for the Rockets. I look forward too seeing Yao play the rest of his career in Houston. I dont expect to ever see him on another team
Yao and T-mac should win a ring together before they both retire. I believe they should be able to win one together if not more.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting custodianrules2:</div><div class="quote_post">Man I sure as heck hope he comes to the Warriors </div> Haha, keep wishing. Too bad you guys had to settle for Dunleavy in that draft year, Stoudemire would've been a way better choice in hindsight.
Great News. We need him. I believe that Yao Is the Next shaq once shaq retires and Yao will be better then the Rockets "Dream"
ummm... i think thats great but i think yao wont be the next shaq cuz he will be in a league of his own. yao can do many things shaq cant do like shoot, but yao still needs to learn, but thats y ewing is helping him.
I don't expect Yao to reach the level of Shaq or Hakeem, but he'll be good -- a perennial allstar. His peak numbers, IMO, will be around 22 ppg, 11 rpg, 4 apg, 2 bpg.

But I see your numbers as the roof for him.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Ming637:</div><div class="quote_post">Like Trip said, "Keep wishing". Yao is a rocket for life.</div> That's what a lot of people's attitudes were when they said about Shaq being a laker for life. Even if Yao doesn't go to the warriors there's a whole bunch of teams that want him and could trade for him if Yao ever demands a trade. Also if Yao starts becoming real injury prone the Rox may not want to take a chance on him and may end up trading him. So when you say "Rocket for life" you better not be betting any money when you say that.

It was maybe 1996 or so, and Hakeem was being asked some questions in a pregame show. Someone asked him (I think it was Calvin Murphy or Bill Worrel) about his future with the Rockets and how long he planned on playing, and he kind of suggested that he thought it could be fun to play for another team down the road. They just brushed it off and said he'd always be a Rocket, but that moment kind of stuck with me. I remember even thinking that one day he might play in Canada, because I knew he had a home there and two new Canadian teams had just entered the league. Then, 4 or 5 years later, he signs with Toronto! So, yep, it could happen. Very rare it today's game for a player to stick with the same team for their whole career. As mild-mannered as Yao is, who knows what could happen down the road. A few losing seasons or injuries, and maybe the Rockets won't be so high on him anymore. Maybe Yao might get bored with Houston and wants to test the free agency market.
That's not very surprising , Yao has a good supporting cast plus the newly aquired t-mac they could build a dynasty overb the next few years.

A guy that big can only stay healthy for so long when playing all year round basketball. His tendons, joints, and ligaments are under more stress because of his size. That's why bigger guys are more prone to going down than smaller guys with some kind of knee, foot problems. BTW Reggie Miller will probably retire a pacer. He's been there what? Like all his career? His shot is still money. Too bad he got swatted by Tayshaun Prince on that layup. That was an unvelieable block. It was like he yelled go-go gadget arms and just stuffed the ball from behind. Here's the thing I like about Yao. He's this incredibly big guy with all these fundamental skills and a lot of potential that hasn't been realized and he seems to be a real gentle giant type of personality. That's pretty good to have knowing that the best players in the league are getting into all sorts of trouble off the court or on the court Shaq/Kobe/K.G./Payton/A.I.. I'd have to say Tim Duncan, Steve Nash, Yao, and any of the blue collar type players are my favorites because I like and respect their personalities and attitudes toward the game. The thing is I almost kind of want Yao to be like Shaq or Kmart so he starts playing like a beast. When he gets pissed off he starts rebounding and throwing it down and that's just fun to watch when he's got the shooting touch and ballhandling and passing skills. I think he's been so soft in the rebounding/inside scoring dept because he's the new kid coming into the league and he doesn't want to make enemies I guess. I don't know how to explain it because he shows flashes of being dominant. The guy has go to start bowling ppl over and throwing it down more and not worry about trying to be nice to everyone.

Personally, I like Yao's demeanor while he's on the court. He'll occasionally show some emotion like when he gets a cool dunk, and in the Olympics he was very vocal. Over time, when he gets really settled in, I think Yao will develop into a very good leader. I just see it in him. Yao has been surpisingly durable his first two years. He hasn't missed a game. And most experts are saying that his conditioning will only improve. I just hope he lucks out and never gets injured.

It's probably on espn.com by now but check www.hoopshype.com in the rumors section and they have all the local Minnesota newspapers or other newspaper that reported the incident as well. They're trying to play it down but the guy who got punched ended up having to go to the hospital. I knew there was more to the guy especially when he was going off on one of the denver nuggets players during the nba playoffs where he was saying "how he was going to war" in front of television news reporters. I dunno he's got his tantrums. This one paper reported that he had socked Wallyworld in an argument but the team tried to play it down.
Yao wanting to be a Rocket for life sounds about right, because he's doing so well there anyways. If he and McGrady are locked up for long term contracts, they could bring something special home to the Houston area. As for All Star status, he'll be an All Star for the rest of his career due to the Asian fan base. However, he'll definitely be worthy of the honor regardless of the outcome of votes now that Shaq is in the East.

I wouldn't much more out of it. KG is an intense player who plays with a lot of emotion. I don't think he's a bad guy with a messed up personality (Ron Artest comes to mind), but then I never heard about these incidents.

There's only a few true centers out there that really have the rebounding, passing, inside scoring, and shotblocking capability. But having a huge asian fan base helps in the overall popularity department almost certainly when it comes to voting. But hey there are other fans such as me that like him just for his talent and the fact he proved a lot of people wrong about not being worthy as the first overall draft pick. He was kind of an underdog initally. So I would say he gains respect because every single nba fan knows there's hardly any allstar centers out there. They've all gone power forward or they just aren't true centers. He'll be an allstar and it won't be because of popularity over in asia or among Asian fans here, it's because what other centers can do better than him overall in that position. He does so many things well.
