    These are CBS' rankings:

    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Ranking the shooting guards:

    1. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers: Unquestionably the third-best shooting guard of the past 20 years once you get past No. 23 and No. 45 ... Michael Jordan and, uh, Michael Jordan.

    2. Tracy McGrady, Houston Rockets: Coming to the Rockets is a chance for T-Mac to redeem himself and silence all the critics accusing him of being a quitter last season.

    3. Ray Allen, Seattle SuperSonics: A great shooter, but he hasn't proved he can raise his teammates' level of play yet and to be paid the maximum, he'll have to do that this season.

    4. Richard Hamilton, Detroit Pistons: He is the second coming of Reggie Miller, with less range. He is non-stop motion and the best mid-range shooter in the game but needs to improve his defense.

    5. Manu Ginobili, San Antonio Spurs: His toughness and versatility are exceptional, which makes his role more vital on the Spurs. And leading Argentina to the gold medal won't hurt his confidence, either.

    6. Michael Redd, Milwaukee Bucks: He blossomed as one of the pre-eminent shooters in the game -- both from 3-point and mid-range. We'll see if he improved at all this summer ... particularly his floor game.

    7. Vince Carter, Toronto Raptors: The past three years haven't even been half amazing. It's time for Carter to bounce back and lead this team somewhere, or he'll always be remembered as an underachiever.

    8. Michael Finley, Dallas Mavericks: When he's healthy and running the floor, his jump shot is going in from everywhere and he's as effective as any open-floor player in the game. But that has become the exception rather than the rule.

    9. Latrell Sprewell, Minnesota Timberwolves: He has lost a little bit off his fastball, but Spree is still capable of taking over games -- big games. But it doesn't happen as often as it used to. But if you ignore him, you're in trouble.

    10. Corey Maggette, Los Angeles Clippers: He's so strong and athletic, and his jumper has improved every year. People forget he was 19 when he came into the league, but all of that potential is coming to fruition.

Also receiving consideration: Doug Christie, Sacramento Kings; Bonzi Wells, Memphis Grizzlies; Joe Johnson, Phoenix Suns; Jason Richardson, Golden State Warriors; Stephen Jackson, Indiana Pacers; Quentin Richardson, Phoenix Suns; Larry Hughes, Washington Wizards; Eddie Jones, Miami Heat; Allan Houston, New York Knicks; Derek Anderson, Portland Trail Blazers. </div>

Wow, Vince shouldn't be behind Hamilton, Allen, Ginobili, and Redd. That must be a joke right? Don't even say that I said that because "I'm a VC fan". Did they purposely not put Pierce as a SG on the list or did they consider that he's a SF?

Now this is the real top 10 SG list:

    1) Kobe
    2) Tracy
    3) Vince
    4) Pierce
    5) Ray

    6) Hamilton
    7) Redd
    8) Wade*
    9) Maggette
    10) Finley

This list looks pretty accurate to me. However, isn't Corey Maggette a SF? And where is Paul Pierce?

Anyways, despite the fact that I highly agree with that list, there are two changes that I think should be made. The first would be the addition Quentin Richardson. He's a very solid player, and I believe he should have been ranked somewhere between the 8-10 spot instead of an honorable mention list. Also, I would rank Mau Ginobili slightly down the list, I believe he is without a doubt a Top 10 SG, but Top 5 is a little farfetched imo. Other than those two things, everything seems fine.

    Come on man thats B.S.
    Ranking the shooting guards:

    1. Tracy McGrady,Houston: This guy has the most skills out of any shooting guard in the planet. He has led the league in the last two years in scoring, and he will win a championship.
    2. Kobe Bryant, lakerz: He has 3 rings at the age of 25, and a lot of other accomplishements, but lets c whose better now, without shaq.

    3. Paul Pierce: May not have the athletcism like Kobe and T-mac, but he puts up the same type of numbers.
    4. Allen Iverson: More heart than any of these guys, but had an injury plagued season, he can still rip it up.
    5. Vince Carter: Even though this guy hasn't had crazy years lately, he still had a career high season in assists, and his scoring was pretty good this year. Hes still clearly better than Ginobilli, Redd, and Hamilton, I mean common. If this guy has the heart and proves GM's wrong, I guarentee he can still get 27ppg.
    6. Lebron James: He is the future of basketball. Already hes among the NBA's elite guards.
    7. Ray Allen: The best shooter in the league, but he doesn't have the flashiness of these other guys.
    8. Ron Artest: Defensive player of the year, who can shut down Pierce, Carter and others.
    9. Correy Magette: This guy has finally starting to reach his potential.
    10. Richard Hamilton: He won the championship, and hes extremely good at shooting open mid range jumpers.

Quentin Richardson is a good offensive player, but his defense is terrible. Also, Manu should be ranked that high...he just never had the opportunity to prove himself while in San Antonio. He did against the Lakers though, when Duncan was injured, Manu was playing the best game out of anyone on the court, and he put in 38 points and kept the Spurs in the game, even through the overtimes.

The problem is Quentin Richardson is a small forward. In that category hes ranked 6 in my books.

Looks pretty accurate, I thought Maggette was a SF too, Avery. I think Manu is way too high, there is no way that Manu is better then Vince. Michael Redd should be 4th, with Vince 5th.

Allen Iverson is a PG, and he was ranked #2 in the Preseason PG Power Rankings for those who even care. However, now that he is a PG and remains a SG at heart, remember he's is listed as a PG and that how he/player should be ranked. But anyways my point is, that you have to rank a player based on their position. This is why I thought Corey Maggette should have been taken off the list, and replaced with Paul Pierce. Maggette is more of a SF than SG, and Pierce is more of a SG opposed to being a SF.

Anyways, Allen Iverson is a PG, and I don?t think it would be fair to rank him as a SG nor a player like Dwayne Wade who is a SG but is playing the PG. If we we're to rank SG's regardless of their positions, you would also have to put some of the point-scoring guards up there as well, i.e. Steve Francis and Baron Davis And with that being the case, it wouldn?t be fair to players like Michael Redd and such, because he as well as some of the other up and coming SG?s earned their spot on a Top 10 SG list and it would be a shame for them to lose some of their credibility because of point-shooting guards.

You have a point. But, the writer of this article mentioned Manu play in the Olympics. And like we all know, International competition and the NBA is two completely diverse things. And yet, despite the fact that Manu is capable of displaying an offensive game like he did in the Olympics in the NBA, I still don't think it?s fair to probably rank him higher because of his play in the Olympics.

Here's a small breakdown of Quentin Richardson's game:

    1) Terrible shot selection (back-to-back sub-40% fg seasons)

    2) Led the Clippers in Field Goal attempts, 3rd on the team in scoring.

    3) More turnovers than assists last season (0.9 assist-to-turnover ratio)

    4) No defense ... I mean none whatsoever

Conclusion: He's not better than any of those guys in that top 10 list.

Yes, that was the writer's mistake. Not to take away anything from Manu, but his Olympic achievements shouldn't be the main reason why he's ranked up there with the rest. Manu has alot more going for him than that.

    Here's my rankings...for everyone's natural positions.

    1. Kobe Bryant
    2. Tracy McGrady
    3. Paul Pierce
    4. Allen Iverson
    5. LeBron James
    6. Manu Ginobili
    7. Vince Carter
    8. Ray Allen
    9. Michael Redd
    10. Richard Hamilton

Look for Ben Gordon to make this list pretty soon. Also, I'm giving LeBron an extra push just because he's a great passer, and not as selfish. Carter drops because he has yet to prove anything to me...until he starts putting up really good numbers and takes the Raptors farther than they have been, he's at the seven spot. Hamilton isn't as high as he was put, just because he had one of the best supporting casts in the league. Redd is a shooter...he needs to work more on his game to be a complete player.

I agree with Avery on this one, Q is an alsome offsensive player, he is only 24 and has a lot of room for improvment on D...He is a sharp shooter, and can drive the lane...Also shouldn't LeBron be on this list [IMG]

The reason I didn't put Francis in there is because he's a confusing player. I don't think he even knows if he's a PG or an SG...so he'd be better off as a point guard. Otherwise, he would never pass the ball. He needs to be the one calling the shots on the court.

That list looks pretty good to me. But I think you've ranked Ginobili too high. He hasn't shown, at the NBA level, that he's better than any of those other players, in my opinion. LeBron hasn't done enough to be ranked ahead of Carter and Allen either. My list:

    10. Michael Finley

After these guys, there's still Allan Houston, Latrell Sprewell, and Cuttino Mobley who I'd put ahead of Ginobili. Again he just hasn't shown enough in the NBA for me to put him ahead of these guys.

Yes, but that's because he's underrated. If given the opportunity, Ginobili could score 20 PPG. People underrate guys like him all the time. Bruce Bowen is a great defensive player, but if I asked everyone to name 300 guys in the NBA, I'm sure Bowen's name would be near the end, if even on that list. Like I stated, every chance that Ginobili has had to play the game by himself, or with a fair amount of minutes, he has been nothing less than impressive.

Also, about LeBron, he's already doing more in his first year to impress me than Vince or Ray Allen are doing now. Ray Allen is a deadly shooter...but that doesn't really get you places in the league unless you're playing in the 80's by the name of Bird. LeBron has defense, can pass, dunk, has good ball-handling...he's just working on his jumper, and this is right out of high school. Garnett, Kobe, McGrady, Jermaine O'Neal...all of these guys came out of high school, but none of them were this impressive their first year into the league. I'm not saying that LeBron will be better...I'm just saying that he's got a lot of potential to be one of the best SG's in the league in the next 2-5 years.
