NBA Players Practices & Workouts I have been thinking about this for a few weeks now. NBA players have games almost every other day, and I've heard they probably have the hardest schedule in the sporting world. My question is this: When does NBA players have the time to work out (with weights) and practise (with the team) ? Im assuming they practise every day they dont have games, but combining this with weight training would (IMO) make them very tired, and they would barely gain anything from the weight training. <font size="1">If this is in the wrong section please move it. I put this in the NBA section because people here seems to have a bit more insight into NBA players habits than the people in the training section</font>

ya but baseball isnt near as strenuous as basketball. unless your a pitcher id say basketball is harder than baseball, but your right they must do a lot of weight lifting in the off season.
Some players lift weights throughout the year. You think Ben Wallace can keep that shape just by playing ball? Have you seen Karl Malone's biceps?Even bench warmers in the NBA are elite athletes, and the only way to get to that level is by busting ass working out and practicing as much as possible. I think many NBA players spend a majority of their off time working out somehow.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Accord:</div><div class="quote_post">MLB has the longest, toughest, and hardest schedule in the sporting world, not the NBA.</div> That's not true at all.... They have the longest schedule, but that is all. They are sitting on the bench half the time. And when they aren't on the bench there are up to 7 of those 9 on the field not doing anything. The time between pitches is like an NBA timeout. Then there are trips to the mound. The "warm up" before each inning.

You think those guys' bodies can go through an 82 game season, playing games every other day for 6 months?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting mogame:</div><div class="quote_post">You usually don't lift weights during the season, if you do, only twice a week.</div> They do lift weights but it's more like a conditioning workout. They pretty much go light weight-more reps.
In any sport you must be in great shape in order to suceed.i'm sure each NBA Player has their own style of working out.If your out of shape, you will not suceed in sports peroid.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting spawn:</div><div class="quote_post">^ Shaq is not really 'out of shape' anymore.</div> But he's still a menace on the court, and he still CANT RAP or Act worth a u know what  But he's in somewhat better shape,so that's good for the Heat.
I've been thinking about this question for a long time as well. I'm thinking that since they're professional athletes, they must work out a lot in their off time. I mean, everyone says Allen Iverson is skinny and has bad practice ethics, but look at him, he's got abs, biceps and calves, and you're telling me he doesn't work out?
getting up to the build u want is the hard part, maintaining it is very simple.. ben wallace could work out once a week and maintain his build very easily.. its simple for these guys and wokring out should not pose as a problem since their lives revolve around it.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Accord:</div><div class="quote_post">MLB has the longest, toughest, and hardest schedule in the sporting world, not the NBA.</div> The game itself isn't nearly as physically demanding (unless you're a pitcher, but they only play a couple times a week). I think the NBA is tougher.

But if you put it all together, taking into account the frequency of games as well as the physical demands of the game, the NBA schedule is the toughest.
teams usually don't have many practices during the season. if they have a couple of days off they will usually have it but usually they just have little shootarounds and watch game film.

Every player on the field is always doing something, if there is just a routine 6-3 putout, every other player on defense of rotating and backing up someone else running hard the entire time. You are grossly mistaken if you think players are just standing around not doing anything unless they're up to bat or a ball is hit towards them and obviously you don't watch, follow, or play baseball. You have to be an amazing athlete to play 162 games a year day in and day out in brutal 90 degree heat. Of all professional sports, baseball players are the closest thing to having a "real" job. Baseball players are playing every single day and during the season they're with the team almost 24/7.
