Taken from ROTOWIRE <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Grizzlies coach Hubie Brown says Gasol will be playing some at center this season, the Memphis Commercial Appeal reports. "When you got into that last six minutes we were able to overcome our lack of size by execution defensively," Brown said. "(Gasol) played center. We just can't do that for the full time he's on the floor." Gasol only started two games at center last season, so he may not qualify in most leagues. However, the team is still not sold on the Stromile Swift/Lorenzen Wright tandem, so Gasol could get more starts this year at center, where his production would more valuable.</div>
Cool! I think that is a great idea! This would give Pau more experience and make him a more rounded player! In turn would make him a more valuable player. I don't care what position he plays as long as he plays for Memphis I am happy!!!
I don't like Gasol as a center. He's too weak to bang with the other 7-footers, and his jumpshot is too bad to play the wing. Power Forward is just where he belongs. I'm thinking this news might have come along before the front office was sure they had Stromile Swift locked up, because if Swift were to have gone somewhere else then Pau might have <u>had</u> to play Center.
It's not necessarily him playing centre, from the sounds of it -- Hubie refers to last year, when he definitely didn't play centre. It's more like they have an extra forward on the floor to close out games, ie. Shane Battier, and trimming the fat so to speak, by not having a centre on the floor, because Lo's already played 30 minutes, and #2 completely sucks.
Duncan said don?t change the position to the franchise player. I think he is more productive playing as PF, he is not a center, he can?t play as well in that position.
If Pau becomes the player i think he can be, we won't need to worry a great deal about the 5. San Antonio and Minnesota have relative stiffs at the 5 and are both highly successful.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Jerry West:</div><div class="quote_post">If Pau becomes the player i think he can be, we won't need to worry a great deal about the 5. San Antonio and Minnesota have relative stiffs at the 5 and are both highly successful.</div> I totally agree!
It does not matter what position he plays at because he will still produce and Oneal is gone from west so there is not a lot of big centers. I think he will do fine at the position and he will have his best season as a PRO!
