According to Yao's doctor, the 24-year-old has suffered serious injuries to his toes, ankles and knees, as well as elbow joints http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2004-09/...ent_2032984.htm Anybody know how true this is?
I doubt the validity of this. Had it been longer and more indepth on the injury, it would have been credible, but this seems like rumors, since Yao didn't look injured at all during the Olympics, and to my knowledge, hasn't been working out vigorously since.
They make the claim of "serious injuries", yet he's fully expected to play 40+ mins per game over the course of the season? Seems fishy to me that such contradictory statements would be put so closely together, especially considering that camp is so close to opening.
Yeah..I dont think its that serious either..Would've been in sportscenter headlines if it were true. On the contrary, a question for houston fans - Now that TMac is in town, do you think Houston will make this season's playoffs if Yao gets injured for most part of the season?
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Now that TMac is in town, do you think Houston will make this season's playoffs if Yao gets injured for most part of the season?</div>Certainly. The main reason that the Magic failed miserably last season was that T-Mac had no consistent offensive help. That's not the case in Houston. Juwan Howard, Bob Sura, Jim Jackson and Maurice can all score 20 any given night when T-Mac isn't feeling it. We won't be as good as we will be with Yao, but we'll still be good enough to be 7th or 8th in the West.

If so, it'll be one helluva road in the West. The Rockets got the 7th seed last year, if I'm not mistaken, with Francis, Mobley, Yao, Jackson, and Taylor. I just don't see them doing it with McGrady and only two of those guys (with additions of Howard and Sura). However, I'm sure Yao will be fine, and the Rockets will make the playoffs.
Of those teams, I would put the Rockets without Yao above Phoenix and New Orleans. While the Suns have made some noise this offseason, I don't see them having enough experience and firepower to be a playoff team. The Hornets, even with Baron Davis, have nothing on the Rockets, even if Yao wasn't to play. The reason I have so much optimism on our chances is that we are now full of experience and talent, a huge step up from the young team a season ago.
You got Lakers in 3rd? ....<strike>Damn son your one funny cat.</strike> You think your boy Kobe can carry that team and make them be in 3rd place? <font color="red">Please refrain from using the word "son". The person on the receiving end may mistake it as an attack. -Trip</font>
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rocketz 4 Sho:</div><div class="quote_post">You got Lakers in 3rd?</div> Why not? There's a legit chance for them to win the pacific division. The kings are no better than the lakers with their current turmoil!

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trip:</div><div class="quote_post">Lakers have no legit big man though, something that is not good in the West...</div> Yeah, but neither does Sacremento. Webber is a solid rebounder, and he can block a few shots now and then, but he's not an inside scoring presence, really. At least not any more.

Simple as that. Also, all the Lakers have to do is win their division against the Kings, and they automatically get seeded 1-3 (depending on their record against the other two division winners, which will probably be the Spurs and the Wolves). The Suns won't be a problem, yet the Kings may be tough...and that's the only competition they have in their division. <font color="Red">Okay...not to talk bad about the Rockets to everyone else...but to Rocketz 4 Sho: you think your boy T-Mac can carry that team and make them be higher than a 7th seed, if Yao/Francis/Mobley couldn't do it last year? By the way...seems like you were a T-Mac fan that followed him to the Rockets, or a Rockets fan that suddenly likes McGrady...which is it?</font> <div class="quote_poster">Quoting Trip:</div><div class="quote_post">Lakers have no legit big man though, something that is not good in the West...</div> I actually believe that Malone will be back, and he will hold Garnett and Duncan like he did Shaq last year in the Laker scrimmages. If not Malone, Odom will do enough for us, maybe even Grant. I'm not worried. Most of the teams in the West that have good big men...have no good backup big men, and that was the problem when we had Shaq. Medvedenko did nothing for us. Now, we have Divac, Mihm, Grant, possibly Malone, Odom...and one of the best players in the NBA. No problem.
A T-Mac fan who followed him to the Rockets...and what? Is there a problem with that? Are you gonna say I'm a fake NBA fan or something? If so, I can careless my friend. Just asking because what's with that question? Hell yeah I think T-Mac can carry that team higher than the 7th seed. Higher than Lakers that's for sure Ill tell you that.

Well there isnt much to explain. You have the obvious. He took the Magic to the playoffs 3 years in a row didnt he?

Seriously, you need to come up with something more substantial. Right now, your points reek of hero worship and Laker bashing, not intelligent conversation.
I see....Well I respect your opinion. When Tracy lost hustle guys in Armstrong and outlaw and mike miller, you can't help but expect the magic to get worse. I think he is a dedicated player who works hard to be the best player in the league, and someone who commits himself every night. Does he have the same heart that a player like Darrell Armstorng has? No. But he has enough talent and drive to succeed that he is more than able to overcome it. The only thing not going for McGrady right now is that he's not a natural born leader. This was evident last season, when Rivers made him the team captain and he was unable (and seemingly unwilling) to lead his team. It was obvious that he was still used to Armstrong leading the way, and I personally feel that T-Mac just wasn't ready yet to captain a team (he's was only 24 years old at the time). McGrady is a great player who should only get better with time and maturity.
