Karl Malone needs 1459 points to tie Kareem for the most points ever. I'm sure he would give away every point he ever scored to get one championship, but does anyone thing he will surpass Kareem before he retires? He'd definately need 2 more seasons. Before last year's injury I thought he would do it, but now I have my doubts.
he has to play 82 games and average 17 points...it think its possible, if not this year than he will definitly get it the next year if he plays. And he could play he is so well conditioned
I frankly don't think Malone will play more than one more season, if that. I think Kareem's record is secure.
It would be nice if Malone could tie or even better yet break Kareems record.Don't know if that could happen or not,but i wish him the best of luck on this quest.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Chungster:</div><div class="quote_post">who cares. as long as malone is a hof, that's all that matters</div> Exactly. No matter what happens the Mailman is a HOF'er for sure
But what if ends up lets say 2 points behind the record. Just thinking about would be nawing at me for awhile. I don't think he'll do it unless he does play all 82 games and he would have to average 17.8ppg to do it. I doubt he could do that now even despite not having to play with 3 other future hof's opposed to one because of his age and they do have Lamar Odom and Caron to do some other scoring. + I don't think he could play another season myself.
His age is a big factor for him achieving this accomplishment. He has all the drive and determination to play the game and win and do his best in every single game he plays but I don't think it would be enough for him to do it in the one season he has left seeing as he is getting old and his bones are getting weary. There's no way he'd play all 82 games anyway so it'll take more than his only season he has left to achive this goal.
Don't count Malone out yet, though. One injury...that's all...it could be something he'll recover from fully, or something that will put him out for good soon, but I think if he recovers from the surgery, he's got two good years left in him. Come on guys...think about how well he did last year before he was out. He averaged 13 PPG and almost 9 RPG in just over 32 minutes, and this is with Kobe, Shaq and Payton on his team. He's still in great shape as far as his upper body goes, and he was nearly invincible until this injury, so give him the benefit of the doubt.

Malone still has the drive and the body to play two seasons more, but he will get the scoring title only if he signs with a team that will give him loads of touches and playing time. Luck will have to be on his side if he wants to play a full 82 games, considering he is old enough to miss about 20.
Theres no way he's going to play 82 games and average 17 points next season. If he only has one season left in him to tie the record then I'd say theres no way in hell he would beat the record. However, if he can play two more seasons then theres still a slight chance he could beat it. Either way, (like everyone else said) as long as he's in the HOS thats all that matters.
Well of course I agree with everyone here that he is a lock for the HOF. He is the best PF of all time. I didn't realise how good his stats were last year....DAMN. Even with the good stats he's going to need 2 seasons to pass Kareem realistically. That is if he even cares about it.
Personally, I'd place Barkley over Malone, considering the fact that Malone did have Stockton dishing to him while the best PG Chuck had played with was Kevin Johnson, who was good but certainly not Stock-calibre. I'm not seeking an argument though, so please don't turn this thread into a who's better debate.
