<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Griffin, cut last season by both the New Jersey Nets and the Houston Rockets, said Atlanta and the Los Angeles Lakers are among several teams considering signing him for the upcoming season.

"Definitely L.A. with Rudy [Tomjanovich] over there, Miami, Minnesota and Atlanta," Griffin told Houston television station KRIV in a report aired Thursday.

Griffin averaged 8.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.63 blocks in 150 career games with the Rockets.</div>
Hmm...what does everyone think about this? Should we give Eddie Griffin (not Adrian Griffin, by the way) a chance? He's had plenty of them in his career...

Here's his profile, for those who don't know much about him...

He played under Rudy T in Houston...and Tomjanovich wanted him so bad, he traded Richard Jefferson, Brandon Armstrong and Jason Collins for him.

I'd give him a shot. He might end up having problems like he did in NJ and Houston again, but he has a lot of potential. Now that his reputation is ruined and not many teams will take the gamble on him, he should also come pretty cheap. I'd give him a shot.

Yes, he will be cheap...probably league minimum for him, and since he's only played two seasons, his salary will more than likely be $695,046. Just imagine...he was the 7th pick in the draft, so he would be making around $3-4 million right now if he would've stayed out of trouble.

Why not give him a chance. Always good to have him on the bench just in case you need a player like him. I think Rudy can controll him and he would stay out of trouble.

This is a win-win situation for both parties. Griffin needs a team to give him a chance, and LA is not only a team, it's a big market team... if he does well, all eyes are going to be on him and he can get nice deals the next season after. For LA, we can always go on with low cost risk... if he messes up again, then it's alright. What excites me about this rumor is that Griffin was one of the best college players a few years ago, and he was even projected as the no. 1 pick before Wizards finally took Kwame Brown.

Man, I'd love this signing. Coming out of school, I thought he was the next great thing. He hasn't panned out yet, but he's still a young guy. Plus he can provide us with some much needed shot blocking at a low price...

I'd be thrilled if we signed Griffin

He sure can provide depth at the much needed PF spot. Depends on what Kobe(the real GM) says...[IMG]

The Lakers have quite a few forwards now and I don't know if I would want him around Odom considering his current record. How about the CBA or DL to see if he can keep strait?

I want him. He has potential and I'd like to see him play for the lakers. We seem to be getting a lot of thin forwards though.

i'd take him in a heartbeat. its a real steal considering his numbers on defense. the laker's fav. word for this season is "depth"

I'd take him then trade a few of our SFs away. I don't really want to see any of them go...but Walton, George and Jones can't all have equal playing time, especially behind Odom and Butler. Mabye a trade for a PG?

Just one question, do you guys think he is better are worst than Slava Medvenko. I haven't seen this guy play much. But if he is healthy and a good defender and has the an ok good shooting touch, then I'd try and get him.

Well, if he stays out of trouble and plays to his full potential, he's much better than Slava...but I don't know if that's possible for him to do.

No thanks, the Lakers don't need another player to bring negative headlines to the team. Here is a list of charges Eddie Griffin has faced ...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Griffin also faces charges of felonious aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault with bodily injury, a misdemeanor, in the wake of an alleged violent confrontation with a woman at his home in October. In addition, he faces a marijuana possession charge from last April.</div>

I don't think people like him deserve to be in the NBA. He's been given several chances and hasn't shown he is mature enough or deserving enough to be in the NBA. The Lakers should have learned from their Isiah Rider experience to not give out any charity opportunities to these type of individuals. There are plenty of other players with Eddie Griffin's talent and a good head on their shoulder.

Shape I know he brings a lot of problems but with Odom playing the PF..we need someone who can possibly be a shot blocker for us. I would give him a chance because I think with the right coach and surrounding players he could possibly pan out into a nice player, plus if we do sign him, like Realdeal stated, it would be for not a lot of money, I say give it a shot.

Why not go after Keon Clark then? He's a better shotblocker right now, and would fill the void for one without all the drama Eddie Griffin could bring. Besides the Lakers have Chris Mihm to enforce the middle.

The right coach and surrounding players are hardly the answer for Griffin, he's played for Rudy T & Byron Scott, both are respected coaches and former players themselves. They relate to their players and both have a winning track record. As for players, he's played with Jason Kidd, Steve Francis, etc. He has no excuses for his behavior, and he has no business being in the NBA as far as I'm concerned. He got his second chance and he blew it.

The Lakers are going into a tough situation and team chemistry is vital for them to put together a successful campaign with Kobe as the leader of this team. The last thing they need is an unstable character like Eddie Griffin in the locker room to distract this team.
