<div class="quote_poster">Quoting dallasdude:</div><div class="quote_post">Anyone know how much Jordan weighed during the 90's? He definitely weighed a lot more then what Kobe did before this summer. Probably around 230 lbs..I'm pretty sure its the first step Kobe takes towards greatness. I always felt Kobe had to add a few extra pounds. 230 lbs is sweet and just about right.</div> Jordan's peek weight was 225lbs, and that was in 2002.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting realdealbneal:</div><div class="quote_post">??? The reason he put on weight is from his 6-6-6 routine. This is one player who <u>wants</u> to win. What the heck is the triple 6 routine? He must be really good at it since he practices in n out of basketball everyday! What happened to the Triangle....
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting arhieboy:</div><div class="quote_post">Jordan's peek weight was 225lbs, and that was in 2002.</div> Michael Jordan put on 10 pounds of muscle going into the Bulls '92 campaign..he went from 190 to 200. Thats about the most he weighed in his prime years. His weight in 2002 wasn't weight training it was age and getting older.
I think this is a good thing, as long as he still has his quickness. More strength will help him alot in defense (he will be even more fierce) and he will also be more feared in offense.
This is about the same weight as Paul Pierce. And if he were 6'8 he'd probaly weigh as much as Lebron. And Lebron is rather quick for his size. Though I am kinda worried about his quickness, but he's probaly more explosive going to the hole and throwing it down. He'd be able to post up better too and shoot probaly the highest percentage of his career. Hopefully anyways.

Also, there's no reason to bring up his personal life to try and bash on his game...except, that's probably the only way you could actually say that McGrady (or anyone) is better than Kobe: off-court issues. Figures. :thumbsdow <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Joe Carbone, Bryant's personal trainer, arrives for a two-hour workout in Kobe's personal gym as early as 7 a.m. Then it's down to the Lakers' training facility for box jumps -- jumping onto boxes of various heights -- medicine-ball throws, 30-yard sprints, acceleration drills and, of course, shooting drills. The weight training sessions alternate from high-rep to maximum-lift; in the latter Kobe now squats 400 and bench-presses 300. His shoulders and arms thickened so much over the summer that his head looks smaller. "Whoa," said the Clippers' guard Corey Maggette after brushing against him in an exhibition. The bigger whoa: It's an eight-year program. And Kobe is only in Year Two. </div>
Gaining 20lbs of muscle in a matter of months is ridiculous, but I guess if anyone could do it, Kobe would be the one. Any time you bulk up you will have short term loss of your explosiveness and speed. However, once his muscles adjust, Kobe will be even more explosive and faster with the added muscle. The only thing that worries me is his shoulder and joints like Dre pointed out. Gaining that much mass in so little time is hard on the joints, and with Kobe's recurring shoulder injury, I hope he didn't do more damage to it by overworking it and lifting, too heavy.
In my newspaper today, It said that Kobe had more determination and focus than anyone else he knew. He said that he's had a lot of great players, but Kobe's in a different galaxy

"I used to read about the Larry Bird workouts, how they would take place over and over, doing this and that. That's how Kobe is. "There are players that their talent allows them to be lax in [certain] areas. I don't see 1% of that in this guy at all." Jordanesque? "Very much so," Tomjanovich said. "I feel good about having a great player like Kobe, and I like the work ethic I've seen of these guys who are coming in a couple weeks early," he said. "It's really a new era. Everything we start building is a positive.</div>

Notice that this thread is NOT about his personal life, so please cease with all those non-relevant and ignorant sounding references. And triple 6 is what's made Kobe the best SG (yes, argueably) in the league, more so in many people's eyes then the often-complaining Tracy Mcgrady.
Doesn't matter what Kobe does, he won't touch Jordan... noone ever will.. Not jsut his game, but his influence and everything he brought to the game. Plus iwth Kobe's problems, his image is horribel so he's never gonna be "The Next One" If anyone right now, it's 'Bron. Sorry Kobe! You'll be great, but not as great as Jordan!

If he just plays hard and leads the Lakers deep this year or in the years to come, it will change in due time. Winning changes everything. From a personal point of view, many still won't like Kobe- The Person but I think everyone has respect for Kobe- The basketball player.

Yeah, you must not have any respect for Jordan then, saying that the closest thing to him is a 19 year old who's only played one year in the league and hasn't done anything that resembles Jordan yet, except maybe a huge contract from Nike. His numbers weren't even as close to "great" in his rookie year (it wouldn't matter though, except you're basing his rookie year on how "great" he is already), and we didn't even see his face after April. Kobe did absolutely nothing his rookie year but sit on the bench. Nobody imagined a 17-year old kid would do anything...but then he started in the All-Star game at the youngest age and became a winner, an idol, and has been proven as one of the best in the league. Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady, Kevin Garnett...these guys are closer to Jordan than LeBron is...and they've got more under their belt to prove it than just one season.
The only reason Bron was good was because he started his rookie season played 35+ minutes and was the primary scorer and offense was arround him already unlike Kobe, and others
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Zoltar:</div><div class="quote_post">The only reason Bron was good was because he started his rookie season played 35+ minutes and was the primary scorer and offense was arround him already unlike Kobe, and others</div> well, they wouldn't have started him and let him play 35 minutes if he wasn't good ...I was one of the biggest LeBron skeptics, but u gotta give him some credit, he's a hell of a player at age 19-20 ...
Kobe is not the next Jordan because after hes done with his NBA career everyones gonna be saying whos the next Kobe?
Honestly the Next Jordan.. do you think Kobe will touch Jordan... Jordan's Rookie Year, is pretty much better than Kobe's BEST year ever... Jordan was a once in a lifetime player... I don't think ever gonna happen again... maybe come close but never be Jordan... And about the Bron thing. I didn't say RIGHT NOW he's the closest, but in his PRIME he'll be the closest thing to MJ ever was. But won't be MJ...
